- hawkeye-08Explorer IIIWe're looking at upgrading our phones to Motorola Moto X Pure (unlocked direct from Motorola) and it can run on all the major carriers, just have to have and activate the right SIM card.
It will be nice when the MiFi products can do it also.. - MrWizardModeratorpicky picky
all google phones are NON-branded, but carrier approved (with the correct technology)
its part of the agreement to use Android which is from google
i once owned a google nexus, the first one..
and guess where i got, at Verizon
besides we are talking about wifi hotspot devices
go ahead buy a Tmo hotspot from ebay and stick your verizon LTE SIM card in it, and let us know how that works out - AsheGuyExplorer

Well, my device is an exception to your statement. I have a Google Nexus 5 phone that is not Verizon (or any carrier) branded. It includes a hotspot and was activated on my Verizon network with no problem. - MrWizardModeratorVerizon Corp
Is know for being very picky
The device has to be recognized as being Verizon branded, before it can be activated on Verizon's network
Just buying a vzw lte SIM card and sticking it in a Tho branded device will not work
Never mind the fact that two of the lte bands are the same
Then there is the problem of non matching 3G technology, for when lte is not available
This is why, if you search Google and eBay for hotspots
You will see some Sprint devices reprogrammed for Verizon
But i have not seen any Tmo devices adv for Verizon
Or Verizon devices adv for Tmobile
I don't know how picky Tmo towers/Corp is about device branding
But again is the same technology problem, if the Tmo SIM works only two LTE bands will be usable, and no 3G service, you could find yourself with no service for the hotspot, even where a phone has a strong Tmobile signal - wa8yxmExplorer IIIT-Mobile is upgrading to LTE as well.. I do not know if the devices can roam.
At one time the hardware had hard code in it that insisted that it only be used on the network that sold it, This is called "Jailing" of a phone or Wi-Fi adapter(jetpack) Older models may still be jailed, It is currently, far as I know (Limited) illegal to Jail these devices so you can not jump networks. but of course many companies care little for the law and do it anyway claiming the device was made before the law went into effect (the law is fairly new, last few years)
To find out if it can be done there are two different procedures.
1: Find out who made the thing and contact them with your model and serial number, Their Tech Support can advise you. This is the method I suggest.
2: Try it and see
NOTE: not all T-moble towers have been upgraded to LTE yet. - ramgunnerExplorerWe use a Z-917 with our Asus RT-AC66U router via USB tethering. It works very well for us - stays up, stays charged, and we shut off the WiFi on the Z-917. If you have a voice line with them, they give a $10 discount on the data service for the Z-917.
- carl2591Explorer IIIon t-moblies website trying to find info on the data stuff is hard. I had to log in and then go to "add a line" and add hotspot, there you see the info on amount of gigs, options included with the option, like binge on for any plan above 6 gig a month.
it also show the mifi device a ZTE Falcon z-917 hotspot.
what make t mobile data a better deal at this point is the coverage is real good now, almost good as verizon, ATT, plus you can watch netflix, hulu, and streaming type deal that does not come off the data plan.
I follow one young couple, vibing and driving, that use it and LOVE the service and coverage.
when i looked 22gig package was like $95 a month which is a great deal
so it appears the hotspot is different which is a bummer as teh novatel mifi are the best ones. - DelphiExplorerVerizon's LTE bands are 2, 4, and 13.
T-Mobile's LTE bands are 2, 4, and 12.
So it may work in some areas, but T-Mobile's big push has been to increase its coverage using the band 12 (which has greater wall-penetration).
Even if it works when you first try it, I certainly wouldn't rely on it for a long-term fix.

IDK about ATT lte roaming
but that was not the question
roaming on a pardner network
is not the same thing as activating a branded device on a different carrier technology
Well while were nit picking.
The question wasn't about GSM/GRS/HSPA, CDMA/EV, either.
It was about date service standards.
Geeesshhhh.
Richard - eichacsjExplorerIf it is a hotspot any WiFi can use it, it is just like linking it to your WiFi at home, if you do that. Only the hotspot itself is tied to a service.
