In Palm Springs a few years ago a park we were staying at lost its power. As a result this couple lost their dog, cat and bird, it was so sad. Myself I think if you have to run the air conditioner with pets inside an RV you better have a backup plan.

I think you need more details. what where ambient temps? OP is talking NJ and MA not the desert.
I suggested the OP give the CG his number. Nevertheless the reality is I live in the same region the OP plans to travel to. I camp with my dog every trip. I have not lost a dog in 12+ years of camping. I do not have a alert system and have no plans to install one beyond giving the CG my number in extreme heat.
Open a vent and or window a healthy dog does not need A/C to survive neither do humans.
There is a huge difference between being comfortable and survival when it comes to hot weather.
