I take my dog all the time. Long trips, short trips and everything in between.
I don't think the dog is going to perish in one day if the A/C fails. Your not going to death valley. Dogs have been around long before air conditioning existed.
The trailer is not going to get suffocatingly hot like a closed up car.
Are you really going to leave the top of the statue of Liberty if you get a text from the thermostat?
Or get back on the Ferry and leave Martha's Vineyard due to an alert?
You could be hours away even if you dropped what your doing and hurried.
If you are really concerned ask the CG to call your cell if there is a power failure. Otherwise be sure the water bowl is full and go have fun.
In Palm Springs a few years ago a park we were staying at lost its power. As a result this couple lost their dog, cat and bird, it was so sad. Myself I think if you have to run the air conditioner with pets inside an RV you better have a backup plan.
I think you need more details. what where ambient temps? OP is talking NJ and MA not the desert.
I suggested the OP give the CG his number. Nevertheless the reality is I live in the same region the OP plans to travel to. I camp with my dog every trip. I have not lost a dog in 12+ years of camping. I do not have a alert system and have no plans to install one beyond giving the CG my number in extreme heat.
Open a vent and or window a healthy dog does not need A/C to survive neither do humans.
There is a huge difference between being comfortable and survival when it comes to hot weather.
In May in Palm Springs the temperatures can run around the 70's, 80's and toward the end of the month closer to June 110. If we camp in the The High Sierra's we don't run the air we just open all the windows.
The yearly charge for my MarCell is $100.00 a year. I can spend that money in one day at Costco, LOL. I really don't need it at my house, but I use it anyway because I'm paying for a year. At home the unit has alerted me for high humidity and power outages and It tells me when the power is restored. Actually I only need the unit 2 or 3 months out of the year, but its worth it.
