Computer Touch Screen?

OK, got my new laptop after my older one crashed. Got the touch screen, like the functionality. Those of you with the touch screen functionality, how do you keep the screen from getting all the finger prints in it? Also, what are you using to clean the screen?

Touch screens while they are "workable" to a certain extent in SMALL sizes like tablets, they tend to get hard to use on LARGER screens like what would be used for desktops and laptops.

Try gestures on a 17" or larger screen, your hand will never make it from edge to edge so you would have to use BOTH hands to expand something larger than a few inches on a 17" or larger screen.

Somethings just don't work so well when taken to a bigger scale.

Win 8 really doesn't bring any "enhancements" to the table for desktops or laptops, basically it is another "ME" and "VISTA" goof up.
  • The jury is still out on computer touch screens and whether a mouse and/or track pad would work better. On a tablet it makes sense because we write that way all the time but reaching up to a computer screen that is nearly vertical is more akin to painting with an easel. Is that natural to anyone other than an artist?

Keep in mind, the mastermind for this effort is now getting tossed aside for his 13 years of bungling.

DING, DING, DING! We have a winner!

There is NOTHING you can do to "prevent" ugly finger tracks and or scratches in ANY TOUCH SCREEN.

I have dealt with MANY computer products over the years which used some sort of touch screen ranging from hand held "palm" type devices to 17" LCD touch screens where I work.

Would I intentionally buy a computer with a touch screen?

    NO.

I have had to deal with repairing those pieces of junk, I would not wish them on anyone let alone torture myself at home.

Something those salespeople forget to tell you about is the finger tracks, scratches and oh yeah, touch screens GO BAD especially in high traffic areas... and to replace the touch screen portion WILL cost the same price as the ENTIRE device. Not to mention hard to get the touch screen parts too boot.

MOUSE it and forget about the touch screen.
  • We use half and half distiller water and white vinegar at work, use microfiber towels as downtheroad mentioned. Don't remember where the formula originated but we've used it for a couple years now on touchscreens and all the flat panel monitors with no issues.
  • Do NOT use Windex with ammonia or other additives on the screen! If you use a window cleaner make sure it is plain window cleaner. Best thing I have used on touch screens is the stuff for cleaning plastic eye glasses.
  • I would imagine you could use one of those rubber finger tips people who handle paper use, or a plastic bag. I use an ball point pen with the ink cartrige out on my garmen, or my finger nail, but can't get DW to do the same.
  • Like gps' and cell phones, almost impossible to keep the screens finger print free unless you wear cotton gloves.(which is silly)
Clean with micro-fiber cloth and alcohol, Windex, etc. Spray on cloth not on the screen.
