CW Malfunctions

Hello All,
I have some questions for the CW folks. To give you some history, DW and I purchased a 2008 MH from a CW sight unseen because we were in Germany (ARMY Wounded Warrior) with plans to return to the states in late January.

During the inspection I asked a few questions.

Where is the fuel/water separator? Tech : I don't know we only have one chassis guy here.

When setting up our 2013 Ford Focus to be towed 4 down, I was told to leave the ignition in the on position with the battery connected. I upset 4 of the techs and the managers by insisting they follow the instructions in my Ford owners manual. There was a serious communication break down between my sales person, the service manager and the tech because I asked for a battery disconnect to be installed, as stated in a e mail to the sales rep 1 1/2 months earlier. Basically, I was told, we know what we're doing. (I was made to feel like I was wrong). When they did not read the directions. (Ford says to disconnect the negative wire). Then they wanted the MH to supply the electric to the break buddy instead of hooking it up to the car battery.

We have owned the MH for 6 weeks, We used it for 3 and it has been at CW for 3. I don't want to vent the rest of this story on here, Because CW has essentially made me (a disabled Army Wounded Warrior) and my DW homeless. I would like to hear from Marcus personally to help address the major issues with my MH and that I am having with CW.
  • I was in Germany when getting ready to transition out of the Army. I am still in the Army on terminal leave. This is why I started the process to buy it sight un seen. Now nothing was final until we picked it up though.

It has to do with trust.I always liked CW and trusted that they would do the right thing. The rest of the story.

During the walk though the tech told me that the leveling system did not work in manual mode, but a electric board was ordered for it. Everyone we talked to at CW at that time agreed we would return in a week or two and have it installed. So, we went on a shake down trip. No one from CW contacted us for two weeks, so DW called the Parts DEPT only to find out the part that was ordered was cancelled. Then we got the run around with no one knows why and no one wanted to talk to us. We finally talked to the store manager after threatening to get JAG involved and having CW black listed.
The manager told us the part just needed calibrated and it was done before we picked it up? I said then why didn't someone show me how to use it? and why did everyone at CW let me to believe the part was on order and I would return? so he found a used part that would work and we went to have it installed.

The MH ran good up until 20 miles from CW. The check engine light would come on when I crested some hills, but would go off. I asked the tech if someone could look at it, he said they only have one chassis guy and he's busy. I had the board installed and was shown how to use it. When I left CW the MH did not want to run. It kept stalling. I was low on fuel so I made it to a gas station and put some fuel in it. It acted the same so in limped it back to cw.

I know everything mechanical can break but we only had this for 3 weeks. When we returned,we sat in CW for 4 hours. We found the service manager in his office with two girls and his feet up on the desk. when my DW approached him he got defensive, saying we broke the MH. It is now in the hands of a Cummings mechanic outside of CW.

As far as me being a wounded warrior, The MH is my home. It was to be a life style change with less stress and anxiety. I am a mechanic but, I am unable to crawl under and on top of vehicles anymore. this does bother me having to depend on someones word that things are right.
  • its rare to hear about good service on any product,BUT you sure here it if some thing goes wrong. I,ve said it before I ,m not a fan of CW .but I,d bet they have more good service than we,ll ever here about . no company could stay in business with all bad service. maybe there should be a post of all the good reports .
  • I don't have any service done at Camping World, but I do buy there products. I don't understand why with all the complaints on this forum about Camping World Service, why they are still in business, they must be doing something right, unless a lot of these complaints are bogus. Not saying the Operator post is Bogus. Roy
  • It Amazes me that anyone buys an RV from CW after reading all the horror stories on this GS forum. This is only 1 of many. I'm sure there are RVers who made an RV purchase at CW and everything turned out 100% perfect. However, I never do well in Vegas so not sure I'd do well at CW either. I do have to give Marcus some credit. If I was in his position I would kill the forum because no news is usually good news. The complaints have to be causing some business loss. JMHO

Why would you buy a motorhome sight unseen? It was a used RV, so why would Camping World be expected to know all the ins and outs of the chassis? Being a disabled Vet does not absolve you of all responsibility. Buying a used RV you have never laid eyes on and expecting it to immediately be your permanent home is optimistic at best. Sorry to be so blunt, but take away your injury and most people would view your complaints as sour grapes caused by an impulsive decision. Used RVs are not exactly scarce, there really is no reason to buy one without seeing it first. Nothing in your post has addressed the reason you can't use the RV. Maybe it is Camping World's Fault, maybe it is your fault or maybe it is no one's fault. Though many people on this forum will pile on and blame Camping World as a matter of principle, most people will want a lot more information before they take sides.

    Well said.

What if his request had not included the first tid-bit:

Sounds like he has some concerns on customer service & follow-up on a purchase, he would like to discuss with Marcus.

  • Sorry about that. I hope you weren't in Longmont,Co.. My story last year nearly gave me a nervous breakdown. Totally incompetent. Liars when asked if they did the 22 items inspection. Had our RV for a month. Had my car 10 days and still screwed up the tow package. Check around for other networks.you can probably find them on here.
