Dell laptop won't turn on
I have a dell studio laptop and it will not power up anymore. I plug it in and the power light comes on and when I press the power button nothing happens. Any ideas what it might be? Thanks.

Dell laptops are notorious for failed connectors where the brick plugs into the computer. Might check to be sure the battery is actually charged.
I don't use the battery I just use the power cord.
Please reread what I said. The plug in is notorious for failing where it mounts to the mother board. That means, NO POWER.

What it might be? No clue
What to try: One clue.. NOTE: I give you a Money back guarantee on free advice.
Remove the power plug
Remove the battery
Sit on the power switch for one full minute (I think it only takes like 30 seconds but go for a full minute or even two)
Restore battery
Restore power plug
Try again
If it works.. Your choice (This is the expensive part)
A: Buy lottery tickets cause when you hot you hot
B: Do not buy lottery tickets cause you have used up your allotment of luck for the week.
(See how helpful that is)
I have seen it work 3 times. Once was on a DELL.

The power socket is mounted directly to the motherboard. Forces applied to the connector--bumping into the cord, etc--can loosen the soldered connection over time. Sometimes the plastic connector cracks. This can cause the symptoms you are experiencing. The part is inexpensive and readily available, and if you have basic soldering skills, it's not hard to fix it yourself, or a computer shop can do it for a nominal fee.

Sounds like the OP is saying the "light" is on the PC, meaning its obviously plugged in, and the battery is out, so that eliminates a shorted battery. It MIGHT be the brick not being able to support the startup current of the laptop, I've had that twice and the only way to check is to find another and plug it in

Before you do anything else - take out the battery - wait for a few minutes - try starting it again - replace battery and start it. This sometimes works. Even if the power cord is in the battery needs to be OK too. Other than that it might be the plug to the mother board or the motherboard battery.
