desktop mounting

i need a way to mount a desktop computer case with all the bells and whistles i will be using solid state hard drives i am aware of the options to have it in a sling i want something more secure and stabilized mounting an LCD is not an issue nor is a wireless keyboard and mouse even for gaming as the rv is a Faraday cage and with park wifi or wimax i am expecting latency of 150 ms up to 200 an extra 2 ms from my mouse and keyboard i do not care but i do not want the computer to suffer from the road and no laptop its just not an option even with an lcd screen i will be demanding to much performance for to long and burn it out
  • I just drew up some plans to have a machine shop make a custom holder out of plate steel that will be covered in foam and upholstery and the computer will be strapped inside this case.

This shell has a steel frame a few inches bigger then then most computers and then will be covered in foam inside and out. so that the foam is compressed when the computer sits in it the steal case is open in the front and back except a small 1/2 inch bar. that will be moveable and it will cover the bottom 5 inches of the computer and will be strapped into place i will still be using a solid state hard drive with this setup i could likely use a normal hard drive unless i hit a bumpy road and i am sure i will do just that from time to time next is seating i am thinking a captions chair will do nicely the LCD screen will be wall mounted like it was a tv wireless keyboard and mouse sometimes you just have to go custom
  • you want a high end video card? you better figure out something internal.

good video cards have close to 1 pound heat sinks, and almost no mounting structure to hold them during bounces. break the graphics card. strong chance your going to break the MB.

good luck, not sure the point of the machine when you mention 200ms latency
  • well not talking about a supper video card more like a 8800 nvidia or a hd 7770 ati i could also put a fan underneath it http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41y9XSjx4gL._SY300_.jpg if i can find somebody to make a padded steel footing similar to the one i designed with mechanical shock absorbers that would be nice if it had 3 inches of smooth travel and non hard bottom out design but if this was not a custom item i would expect it to be a 1000 bucks or more i know the first responders aka the mobile command bus that dhs has uses computers with a special case i want to be able to change out and upgrade hardware from time to time without an engineering degree so that means the case needs to be a normal case and that requires the case to be shock isolated so doing the engineering once outside of the case will allow me to use a normal case and not have to re-engineer the entire setup just adjust and balance the shocks if the weight is changed power supplies can vary in weight a bit but a good power supply is always heavy and typically range from 5-7 pounds but could be close to 10 pounds also another machine being used a dvr but this one will not have a big graphics card something more on the line being a step up from say a mx400 just enough to do hd video dvi and hdmi and it will have an after market cpu cooler that is slightly lighter then the stock as well as some raid cards this unit will likely be anchored in place with little shock protection maybe just screwed to a desk though the feet with a heavy rubber mat under it all solid state hard drives with a high reliability not the cheap budget ones talking about solid state hard drives made for video editing but got to make sure they are not hybrid and are solid state though and though i never heard about hybrid solid state always thought it had a platter or did not
  • even while on the road i might play signal player games or work on a script for short films we plan to do or try to load my email if i got 4g access near a city likely not gonna be able play any games but i could likely load my email before i switch towers then have to log in again i will have a top notch router that will be able to connect very quickly once the g4 wimax device connects as well as having allot of caching abilities heck i might be able to watch youtube clips while on the road near a city for the last hour and first hour of every trip i do not need to have the best of the best just need to be able run with high settings and not have screen jitters
  • i will be working with my dealer to get this rv custom fitted but it seems this is not something that is very common it can be done i know dhs has done it but they spend 5 grand on a computer case that is our tax dollars at work i am sure an easier way exists such as shock isolating the computer case having a good flooring system will reduce allot of the smaller jolts and vibrations but a pothole is still gonna be be an issue

its custom from the ground up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sOXUQiiJAM that is what a paint job can do and we are going for special underpayment to reduce road noise so its the big shocks i am worried about the small vibrations will not even be noticeable i got most everything else worked out just this computer needing a shock isolation system i think my best bet is a floor mounted system that is both using springs and is padded unless i can get the performence i want from video cards that not so big normaly my cards tend to have about a half of pound of heat sink on them still enough to be of some worry a body in motion tends to stay in motion so we have to make this transition slower a shuttle interesting concept i might consider as it has the video card facing up were shock of a bump just pushes the card into the mother board rather then a lateral stress on the socket my dvr will likely be a horizontal case due to a number of factors but this will also have the same advantage my main computer will be a more confined area being i plan to sit right in front of it vs back min of 8 feet from the tv on a cross bar luv seat so the dvr being in a cabinet with a dvd player and maybe even a satellite receiver is not a big issue inside an RV not much side to side movement or back and forth movement just the up and down movement of a pothole or even a dirt road but mostly its the chance of a pothole that has me worried i do not think a dirt road is something i will feel much i might feel half of it due to the underpayment and advanced paint job we will be getting

looks like these guys claim to have the skill and custom hardware to make this work
