DirecTV genie Go

Called twice about adding Genie Go to my home account. I was given two stories by two agents.

The first agent told me it was an automatic update I would get to my Genie eventually.

The second agent told me I needed a device, which I could order for free, but an agent would have to bring it and install it.

Does anyone have the correct answer?

  • GenieGo is apparently a no go. Finally got a tech today who told me that GenieGo is being dropped and is no longer available from any source. Those who now have them are still able to use them, for the time being, but will eventually be cut off.

I have dealt with DirecTV for long enough to know that nothing they tell you is, "for sure". I wouldn't take any information as 100 percent factual.

We are full-time RV-ers. At our winter vacation house in AZ I called and got an upgrade to Genie for only the 1/2 price install of $25. We are a long time customer. They don't offer an upgrade unless you ask. An installer came out and did the upgrade.
Got a Genie HD and a wired Mini for the kitchen.
The installer gave me a second dish receiver LNB unit and power supply for my RV. (Don't need the extra power supply as just use the one that powers the main Genie HD box) I did have to order a splitter SWM from Amazon since I wanted a second TV in the RV.
Now be advised you will need this SWM splitter even if you only have on TV. It powers the dish. The installer didn't give one of these. I could have taken the one from the house but just ordered it from Amazon. Amazon.com SWMM splitter

So when we hit the road already had a portable dish just changed out the LNB. It only takes one coax (not two as before) from the dish to the SWM splitter and then one coax to the main Genie HD receiver and another to the second small TV from the splitter I mounted in the basement so I could watch DirecTV outside. Works great.

I already have a Genie, wireless mini, SWM Slimline 3. Been using them on the road for some time now. What I want is the system described by Triker33, above. So, I guess that's my answer.
  • You would need to purchase the GenieGo device from a third party like Solid Signal and then install it using the DTV instructions. As far as I can ascertain, there is no "upgrade" to this.
  • Please note: DIRECTV no longer sells GenieGO devices online or over the phone.

DIRECTV GenieGO™ is a small device that works with your Genie or HD DVR receiver to let you watch your recorded shows on your computer or mobile device anywhere. You have a couple options for watching your shows on your device:

Download your shows from your DVR playlist to your device when you're in your home Wi-Fi network and then watch them wherever you want, even without an Internet connection.

When you're joined to any Wi-Fi network, not just your home Wi-Fi network, you can also stream your shows instantly to your device without having to download them first. GenieGO works only with DIRECTV Genie or HD DVR receivers.
