Not trying to change your mind as only you know what you want to do, but rememeber that your perfectly good roof already has a bunch of holes in it! A professionally installed satellite antenna will not leak any more than any of the other holes up there. Heck, it only takes a 3/4" hole to run the cables and the antenna comes with a 4" square cover plate to seal it up. - GaryGusExplorerI think the "old" portable dish on a tripod is good way to go. The most difficult thing is to find a place to carry that big dish. I would also suggest that you devise a wide-base tripod to allow for the extra weight and exposure to wind of the larger dish. Other than that, it is absolutely as easy to set up as any of the older dishes. In fact, the fine tuning adjustments make it possible to always get a superior signal strength. Kinda cool.

Correct...very frustrating that Directv isn't that way - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIHe is only wrong if he is a DirecTV customer. If he is a Dish customer he CAN get HD with a dome but he cannot do so with DirecTV.
- 2oldmanExplorer III was just talking to someone in the CG who had one of those portable white dome things. I asked if he got HD, he said yes. Is he wrong?
- Carl_n_SusanNomad IINope, the big dish is it. Either on the Travler as a roof mount automatic satellite finder or on a tripod (use a high quality such as the one from TV4RV) where you get to align it. And you probably will want the portable tripod, even if you have the Traveler, for when you are parked in trees.
HD is worth it! The tripod mount isn't difficult to align. I can do it in under 5 minutes.
