Since this is a forum for RVers, it can be assumed that you will often be in your RV connected to a limited cellular data plan (connected to a Jetpack, phone hotspot, etc.) when the auto update could occur. To avoid unexpected data usage, you will want to control when updates happen and allow them only when you are connected to an unlimited (free) data source.
Setting all connections that use a limited data plan to "metered" should accomplish this under most circumstances.
I have read that even setting the connection to "metered" will not stop the auto update from happening if you happen to be connected to a cellular fed router via Ethernet.
