Dish Carry out antenna

I took my Carry out antenna and mounted it on my ladder in the back of my 5th wheel. I routed the cables to my satellite connections in my dock. Now with out having satellite service how do I know if my install was successful ?? I wonder if they broadcast a locating signal with out having to pay for service until I am ready to hit the road?

Yes, there is a test channel (100?) that you should get without service. A rolling advertisement.

You could also go into settings and look at the signal strength meters.

    channel 101.
  • Don't need service to see if your equipment is working. Turn on receiver and select menu to get into set up mode. We use Dish VIP receivers and they have an audible tone for dish pointing. Never have used a meter, with either Dish or Directv we set sat dish to pointing parameters as indicated by receiver. Level tripod/stand and use compass to set azimuth. Tweak until audible tone is as high pitched as possible, download programming and start enjoying all the same channels we have at home.

  • I use a meter like the one in this video (about $15):
