DISH Hopper/Joey HDMI compatible?

I currently use a 722 in my mh that is equipped with a DISH 1000 Trav'ler antenna. I am thinking about going to a Hopper/Joey configuration and was wondering about HDMI compatibility.

My electronic cabinet is located in the mid-mh bedroom behind the bedroom's TV. All cables (2ea RG6) from the antenna terminate in that cabinet. There is also a HDMI splitter that then provides HDMI cables to both the bedroom tv and the living room tv.

So, would a Hopper/Joey configuration be advisable?

thanks

Ron

  • Ok. That would put the Hopper and the Joey in the same cabinet. And yes, the hdmi cable from the cabinet to the tv in the living room is the only connection that tv has.

So based on what you just posted, I would connect the hdmi cable to the front tv to the hdmi output of the Hopper....

connect the Joey to the Hopper via a short rg-6 cable....

and then connect the output of the Joey to the bedroom tv via another short hdmi cable....right?

Now, what about remotes. Are they IR or RF?

    Please excuse my ignorance..

How is the Hopper/Joey connection? Hardwired with rg6....hdmi.....wireless.....?

    RG6 or RG59

    - Put a Joey in the bedroom cabinet.
    - Connect the Joey to the Hopper using RG6 or RG59.
    - Connect the Joey's HDMI out to the bedroom TV.
You don't need that long HDMI cable you ran unless that's the only way you can connect the Hopper (or Joey) to a TV because it's located far from the TV.
  • So far sounds good. From what you said, I'm assuming that the Hopper has an HDMI output for the main TV (in my case it will be the bedroom tv). How is the Hopper/Joey connection? Hardwired with rg6....hdmi.....wireless.....? I currently have an hdmi cable running from the bedroom electronic cabinet to the front living room tv. Will the Joey be place in-line with that cable? Little confused on this part.

A Hopper/Joey system uses a MoCA network and RG6 or RG59 coax. HDMI interconnect cabling in not necessary. Each Joey (plus the Hopper) has an HDMI out for a TV.

    Here's my Hopper setup.
  • Have a Hopper and 2 Joey's. They have 3 line(Y-R-W) and HDMI output connectors, no screw on cable types. The input is a standard cable screw on. There are also USB and Cat-5 connectors on the back.
