A Dish VIP211K, Z, or Wally will record with an external hard drive attached and will work with a Playmaker. There's a one-time $40 fee to activate the hard drive/DVR feature. Instead of the Playmaker though, I recommend the Winegard Pathway X2 as a more versatile automatic dome dish. The X2 receives both the Dish eastern and western arc satellites for better aiming opportunities in heavily treed locations. The Playmaker is a western arc only dish. If you spend much time in the eastern US, you'll find that in some areas the local channels are only on the eastern arc sats.
