DVR - how to record using Verizon cell phone hot spot?

My only internet access is by using the wifi hotspot generated by my cellphone data plan.
I'd like to record some over the air (OTA) TV shows.
Can it be done?
How?
  • You can also buy a Tivo OTA and record on that, no internet needed to record it or watch it later. Right now they are on sale with a lifetime subscription. For 250 you can get a 1TB OTA unit.
  • Thank you Sam. That's how I interpreted the online user manual provided by one of the DVR manufacturers. I was hoping for more. Maybe later. . .
  • Hotspot plus YouTubeTV will do what you want. Or Sling, Don't know about the others

OTA TV and Internet don't go together.

You need a DVR with a built-in tuner and an appropriate antenna.

Your phone and the Internet don't figure into it at all.
  • For ota TV, use a DVR

For web streaming from a service, then you need a recording program on your PC, the pc uses the phones WiFi,
Problems can occur like recording lots of buffering because the connection was too weak or to busy
Setting a timer and not doing it yourself is risky for the same reason, timer runs out but you don't have all
of the program/stream you wanted to record
    There were Android DVR programs
Really they recorded your selection to their server
Then you could watch it on your phone
If your phone has mirror/casting or HDMI or mobile video out, this might work for you, this would let you view it on your TV, cell network data speed is still a factor of you and up with buffering or stuttering or have to watch very low resolution video
