Yahoo bought what was left of them.
Both were owned by Verizon, which sold them to another media group. - TenOCNomadI have use Thundbird for a few years also. The only thing I did not like about it is that it is somewhat complicated to specify where on your HD you store your messages. Not imposable, but complicated.
I like to keep my "C" drive for programs ONLY and my "F" drive for all my data. This makes backing up and restoring from my backup simple for me.
eM Client serves my needs better than Thurdbird. - 2oldmanExplorer IIaol? Thought my gf was the only one left with that.

Maybe I should have said that I use eM Client as my mail handleing software.
I have been using Thunderbird for many, MANY years. There is a lot of online help for setting it up.
You do need to understand the difference between POP email (all mail is downloaded to your computer) and IMAP (mail stays on server unless you specifically set up local folders and move the mail into them; good if you want to occasionally use the web interface).
I also like the editor. Bold, italic, underline and easy to insert pictures and web links.
Best of all you can cut/copy/paste mail between servers ! - TenOCNomadMaybe I should have said that I use eM Client as my mail handleing software. I does an outstanding job of blocking spam. Once you get spam simply "move to junk and block domain" No more spam from that source.
Plus I can store important messages on my local HD
I only need to block 1 or 2 spammers a month now. I almost never logins to the AOL website. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIBack in the early days of AOL nearly everyone blocked 'em. many spam-a-lot accounts were AOL.
That they supposedly have corrected (like 30 years ago) but alas the spammers are ever creative in how to get past the .bots Some of em even get past the old Brain.bot (Me).. though most spam goes by by unopened. - way2rollNavigator III thought AOL went out of business decades ago. I can still remember the dial up modem tones and "you've got mail".
- BumpyroadExplorerfor the last week or so I have not gotten any thing identified as spam on my aol account. I usually got one or two a day before? weird
