Anyone know if the new Android version 4.4, I believe, is compatible with FoxFi? My Verizon Motorola phone just got a software update today - I'm holding off on the install on the phone since the last time we all went thru this it eliminated our use of FoxFi, which is presently my only usable Internet connection..., until they came out with the password word-around. Kinda surprised I haven't seen any discussion about this on the Forum! I believe PDA+net is saying no more wireless, only bluetooth and USB for Verizon. Got any work-arounds to connect a Kindle Fire tablet since it uses WiFi??? Thanks, guru's!!! ST

loggenhock - I feel your pain. I happily used Fox Fi with my Motorola Droid Razr. I bought a newer Motorola Maxx two months ago because I wanted a bigger battery. The new Maxx is a better phone. BUT Fox Fi is not compatible with it. So now I have to pay Verizon 30 additional bucks a month. UGH.

I saw a list on the net of the phones that still work with FoxFi.

my advice is keep saying 'NO' until the positive postings appearthats what i did with my Nexus, for the first update, still saying NO to the second update

I have a Razr Maxx. Got the software push yesterday and FoxFi is still working for me. YMMV depending on your phone.

I got the update on my Droid Razr today and am connected via FoxFi on Verizon as I type this post. I was a little nervous when I tried FoxFi the first couple of times and it wouldn't connect but after that it's been working great.

That was the beauty of using Foxfi/PDANet. Root isn't for everyone, and the fewer things that have to have a "#" prompt, the better.

At least that is better than the iPhone where if one wants Foxfi/PDANet functionality, it requires a jailbreak, and the ability to JB only lasts a few weeks before Apple fixes the hole.

Right now I am eyeing the new Samsung Galaxy S5 that is due out in March/ April..........rumor has it it will have an Octa Core Processor on board.....

It would be nice if Foxfi can come up with a non rooted fix.....not everyone is capable of following root instructions......

but I have heard that you cannot download through Bluetooth.?

BT dun, aka dial up networking, it's full internet yes you can download
The few times I ever used it , was on a different phone
I've just never had much luck with bt connection pairing

Since you're up for an upgrade you might consider a Nexus 5. Easy to root. However, KitKit makes using the native hotspot difficult on some carriers - namely Sprint.

Thanks for the additional information.........I don't have a Moto X........I have an old Bionic on an unlimited plan that I want to replace but I won't replace it until I know FoxFi will work with Kitkat.......

My Bionic is getting slow but FoxFi works too good on Jelly bean to go without.......

If you have a Moto X, there is a root method for KitKat. It is a long process and is somewhat difficult. It requires flashing the phone at least three times to 4.2.2 camera update. When finished the Moto X is rooted. You can then install Xposed and Moto Tether and use the native WiFi.

KitKat does not break root. It changes the way some things are handled root-wise so gaining root may have to change, depending on the phone.

Not all phones are to get kit kat. The original droid razr and razr maxx ( not to be confused with Droid Maxx) are not scheduled to receive kit kat 4.4.

There is an update going around for 4.1.2 right now and it does not affect foxfi. It's a minor update and really is only for a roaming issue and something else minor that I cant remember.

If you are on a share everything plan, none of this matters much to you anyway. But if you are on an old unlimited data plan, and use foxfi you don't want to update to 4.4 kit kat.

Supposedly if you disable motorola services in your manage apps settings it will stop giving you update notifications. I have already received the notification for the 4.1.2 update on my phone. But didn't update yet, I have since disabled motorola services. I will let you know if it stops the notification or not. I kinda doubt it will since I already received the download, just didn't install yet.

The disabled motorola services did not stop the update notification. But like I said, I didn't expect it to, because it had already downloaded on my phone. I just haven't installed it yet.
