Garmin Express not recognizing micro sd card in nuvi 2790

I have a Garmin nuvi 2790. Last map update the first of this year required a micro sd card be inserted into the device to provide sufficient storage. Worked fine. Today, I checked to see if an update was available. There is. But Garmin Express can not detect the sd card. Following advice I found online I re-formatted the sd card. Of course, that wiped it of all info. Garmin Express still can not detect it. With the sd card in the Garmin and the Garmin connected to my computer the sd card is detected by my computer file manager so it's not a faulty card. I even tried a new card and it was not detected by Garmin Express either.

I sent an email to Garmin support but will not get a reply until next week.

This is really "bugging" me and I want to know why I'm having this issue.

Does anyone have a solution?
  • I've never emailed Garmin, but have called them on the phone several times for help. I try to avoid Email help because there are usually follow-on questions. Why play tag for several days. I usually have to be elevated to next help level where they usually take control of the GPS through my computer. They've fixed the problems every time.

And when hooked up to their site, do download all of your saved locations in case your GPS crashes or you buy a new one.

  • I had problems with 2 SD cards I think one was a Pony not sure about the other I read on one of the forums to use Scan Disk bought one and no problems since.

Another problem I read about was using to large (over 16MB) of card.

You might try the POI factory lots of Garmin folks on there.

:) Hi, my Garmins say to use up to , but not higher than 32 GB's. And that is what I use in mine. I use Scan Disk too.
