Gmail Loading Issues

I would say x2 on Thunderbird, whenever possible. Because an E-mail client handles all functions locally, the only data it has to fetch is the E-mail itself. It doesn't have to pull pictures or execute scripts (perhaps pulling large, bandwidth sucking ads) with every action.

Thunderbird is nice for security as well. It has its own key repository, and can stash the mail passwords, all encrypted with a master password.

As for IE... I'd highly recommend going with another browser. I would recommend Chrome, and setting "click to play" on, at the minimum. Since Chrome isolates things quite well, if one browser tab gets infected, it will be far less likely to spread to the entire browser, or the system.

If Chrome isn't loading, or taking a long time, it likely is something misconfigured or some nasties present. I'd probably run both ccleaner and Malwarebytes, one of which is great at cleaning out cruft, the other is good at finding and stomping the bugs.

The only thing is, one can scan for nasties with tons of programs, go through the machine with autoruns (a free utility from Microsoft which scans every task in RAM against 30+ different AV products using VirusTotal), run "sfc /scannow" to check and replace corrupted programs, then use netsh reset to reset the adapter... but there is a point where one is best off backing up all their data, making sure they can reload their applications, and then formatting/reinstalling from scratch.

Oh, don't expect the "reset" feature in W8 and newer to do the job. Tried that recently, and the box completely lost all sound, so ended up just doing a format and reinstall using OS media, which did the job right.

I rarely log directly into GMail webmail. Mainly just to set some global filters, or redirect to another email account.

Using Thunderbird, access to GMail is extremely fast as you are accessing the mail servers directly, and do not require loading GMail's webmail UI when using a browser. Which actually eats up more bandwidth.

I supposedly have top grade malware spyware virus amoebic dysentary ware. Nothing else runs slow. Eduardo's IE also loads slow Vanessa's Chrome loads fast. Same IP same time frame for problem.

After trying the many tips suggested here, trying FF & Chrome browsers, etc., Gmail is still not up to its old glory in loading as the progress bar mostly stops at about 1/4. When I refresh the page 3-4 times, it will sometimes continue and load. Other times, I hit the standard view loading link which usually works then the basic HTML link which it switches to. :>(
It does seem to be loading correctly on the other laptop and our smart phones/ipad but not my laptop. Appears something is amiss. Have also run a comprehensive scan for nasties also.

I had a similar problem. I changed the DNS server codes, and now my machine loads fast and reliably.

Are you SURE you didn't pick up some Malware or Adware along the way?

As I stated previously, absolutely no problem with FF and Gmail.. BUT keep in mind I DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY ALLOW UPDATES.. That includes my Browser.

I absolutely do not blindly accept every update, have had some in the past that broke things.. I hate fixing things that should have never gotten broken so I wait a while then backup my system then apply updates after all the "beta testers" (IE folks who do blindly accept every update) find the problems.

If you are having issues with FF and Gmail it is most likely a update that could have toasted your honeymoon between FF and Gmail. Or as I mentioned Malware/Adware can easily cause Internet connectivity issues.

Never had a problem with Gmail using any browser but prefer Firefox.

Gmail,IMHO, is the best (and over the years have tried many others) with great Spam filtering.
