Honda 2000i generator recall issue

1. After reading several posts on the poor customer service at CW, I decided to post my recent experience and illicit some feedback on what I should do. Here is my Story.... On a Sunday afternoon the 2nd of June 2013 my wife and I purchased two Honda generators, models 2000i and the companion. On Monday I discovered, through this forum, that the above mentioned generators had a recall issue for a fuel line hose clamp. I contacted Honda headquarters and gave them the serial numbers of the generators and I was advised that 1of the generators had been fixed, however the other had not and would need to be. Honda provided me with an authorized Honda repair facility and I had it repaired. Honda also advised me that the seller should have performed the recall before selling the generator to me. On Monday the 2nd of June 2013, I sent corporate headquarters an email describing the event surrounding this purchase and I am still waiting for a response. Now this entire situation has left a bad taste in my mouth and I am wondering if I should just return the generators for a full refund, or keep them and just chalk it up as another victim of the poor support from CW. Your opinion on this matter is greatly appreciated, Thank you for taking the time to respond....

  • 1. They defended their position that the recall had been performed on the generator. I told them that Honda verified that the recall had not been performed. This was accomplished through the serial number of the effected unit. Also, the Honda authorized dealer that performed the recall told me that it had not been accomplished. I have yet to hear from CW headquarters, as they apparently have chosen to ignore my email.
  • What did the selling/servicing store, do when you asked them about this situation?

Is CW not a Honda authorized service center?

  • Federal law bars any person from selling products subject to a publicly-announced voluntary recall by a manufacturer or a mandatory recall ordered by the Commission.
  • Very helpful....

American Honda; Phone toll-free (888) 888-3139, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at http://powerequipment.honda.com and click on “Recalls and Updates” under “Service and Support” for more information.
  • One was fixed, one was not, pre-sale (humm, CW is only human and may have missed this one). or one needed the fix, one did not.

What is it; you would like CW to do?

Appears, Honda gave you authorization and it was fixed.

Why would you return them, if fixed?

    Timeline of events ----
    Purchased Sunday June 2, 2013
Monday June 3rd discover recall issue
Monday contact Honda getting info on status of recalls & your units
Authorized repair facility located and had it repaired (assuming Monday?!?)
Monday June 3rd, contact CW headquarters (for what?)

Thursday June 6th ask on open forum opinions.

Just my opinion, we as consumers make our satisfaction, and the parent Company Honda, provided the consumer with the correct way to make sure you had a safe-correct unit. Yes, CW should support what they sell, but heck this situation seems a little un-fair to CW, unless we are missing something.

Would it be different is HONDA customer service had not mentioned “seller should have performed the recall before selling the generator to me.”

I don’t see the reason to return them, if they were fixed.

  • Would you post the phone # for Honda so that I and others can check on our generators please.
