- valhalla360NavigatorAnother reason is you are busy doing work and suddenly everything bogs down and you keep getting popups saying the system needs to reboot.
Not to handy when you are in the middle of a presentation. - ORbikerExplorerMy computer recently did the update automatically. Jammed up everything. Would not boot up all the way.
Cost me $200 to have a computer shop fix it.
He said he was very busy fixing many computers. Some will have problems and some won't. - mr__edExplorer

Why block updates?
You are right, Old Man. I’m a big believer in updating the OS. - mr__edExplorer

If you are not regularly backing up your computer, like right before the second Tuesday of the month, you are asking for trouble.
I know a doctor that recently had to pay $25,000 to get his files decrypted from ransomware. BTW he did not pay the ransomer's, he paid a security firm to rescue his files.
A 1TB USB drive can be had for less than $50.
I understand why you would not want to update over a metered connection but you must keep your system up-to-date to protect yourself, and others.
I’m quite aware of that. I know updates are important and plan to download them manually when they’re ready. I check for updates each day.
BTW, my computer is well backed up, both on hard drives and the cloud. - HackerAceExplorerIf you are not regularly backing up your computer, like right before the second Tuesday of the month, you are asking for trouble.

Why block updates? Doesn't it cause problems down the road when you really need an update it can't/won't because you have skipped previous updates? Kind of why I gave up on Win7 eventually.
Quite often (always?) when MS puts out a new release there's problems. If you can block the updates for a week or two, they've usually then fixed them.
I have a Win7 and a Win10 machine. When updates are due, I use the Win 7 for a week or two and then turn the Win10 if the problems have died down.
I hope my Win7 machines last long enough for them to dump Win10 and move on to something else.
Bill - Ski_Pro_3ExplorerI have my windows 10 advanced options:
"Automatically download updates, even over metered data connections" set to off. However, several updates have been logged on the "View Update History". Most recent were yesterday even!
When I go to 'check for updates' I'm informed that I have the latest updates already installed.
Obviously setting Auto download updates to off isn't having any effect I can fathom. - 2oldmanExplorer II
