Perhaps it would be better to update your original post.
At this point, he may not be able to.
This whole thing stinks of a common Internet scam (hence my previous comment). Visit an evil website, get a pop-up saying "we found a problem on your computer, call us so we can to help fix it." Maybe it gets infected at that time. But if you call, then they end up talking you into giving them remote access to the computer, at which point you've really lost. Because if it's not already, they will infect it so they have ongoing control, and they'll break things, say you're lucky because they can fix it, just need a credit card #, etc. You'll be lucky if they don't find other credit card numbers, etc. on the computer and do a full blown identity theft scam.
I say all that because he says he called "tech support" because "Yesterday the internet went down when he was working on my wife's computer." You call your ISP for an Internet problem, and I've never seen one which also does hands-on remote computer troubleshooting and maintenance. Red flag! Guy probably scammed his way into the wife's computer, broke too much so the Internet wasn't working right, and is busy ripping them off right now.
X2
X3, I had this experience when having problems with my google mail account. I went on line, I found the google tech support phone number. I called and they wanted to do a "Scene share" to help fix the issue and they said that my email account had be corrupted and hacked into. Our technican will be glad to fix the issue, it will take about 1/2 hour and for only $186. But with this $186 you will also get a 1 year tech support plan. I said no thanks and a few other X rated choice comments:) Moral of the story, if any tech support person mentions there will be a $$$$$$$$$$$$ cost-------close your computer and get out of Dodge!!!!!
