Ipad with Wilson Sleek

Anyone using a Wilson Sleek with an Ipad or similar? If so, how did you "attach" the Sleek to your tablet?
  • The cradle comes off. I got extra sides (probably for a different size phone) with mine. I don't see why you couldn't take it apart and velcro it to the back of the ipad.
  • Wilson has great tech support and may have a good solution for you. I would call them. I called them and they sent me a free antenna!

Have not played with that thought but see no reason why it would not work. You could use VELCRO strips to hold it in the proper position perhaps...

You probably would have to experiment where to place the floor of the cradle for best transfer of antenna signals...

The arms of the cradle do come off very easy. You can actually purchase different sizes of the Sleek cradle arms to use different sizes of devices.

You might even get to design the same arm concept to fit your IPAD with alittle of work...

  • Let me re-ask my question in a more specific way. Has anyone just taken the cradle pieces off of their sleek and positioned the sleek in intimate contact with their cellular capable tablet?

The WILSON SLEEK has a built-in PASSIVE Antenna setup on the base of cradle where your cellphone will be resting. The WILSON SLEEK is nothig more than an ANTENNA AMPLIFER setup and has no cellphone type integrated electronics. There is no physical connection from the Sleek to the Cellphone. Also the distance your cellphone can be from the bottom of the cradle holder is very limited. i.e. my CELLPHONE will not work with the PASSIVE signals from the WILSON SLEEK more than an inch or so away from the cradle. i.e. the cellphone device almost has to be sitting inside the cradle arms to work.

Having said this if your cellphone has WIFI HOTSPOT capability the WILSON CRADLE will very much enhance your cellphone operations for picking up your cell towers and would send a strong WIFI signal for your standalone devices like the IPAD TABLETS to work.

I can't think of any other way you could use this...

  • Assuming you're talking about a iPad with a cellular data connection I don't think there's a way to use it with a sleek. As stated the sleek is cradle for a handheld sized device not tablet. If your're talking about a WiFi only iPad the sleek won't help either.

I use an older WILSON SLEEK CRADLE that has an external antenna with my Verizon 3G MIFI 4420 unit.

My MIFI UNIT looks like this when sitting in the WILSON SLEEK Cradle holder.

The WILSON SLEEK is my so called DOCKING STATION for the MIFI unit and is used both in my F150 truck and OFF-ROAD POPUP Trailer. The 4420 MIFI only has a 3GB DATAPLAN so it is only used for checking in with kids, paying bills, and some limited surfing of the internet.

The VERIZON NETWORK has been my choice over the years for outstanding CELLPHONE service when you have to off the main interstate locations and back off the beaten trails somewhere. Not having a working service is very rare for us.

The VERIZON MIFI gives me a WIFI FOOTPRINT around my truck and OFF-ROAD POPUP where I can use up to 5 WIFI enabled devices like my laptop computers and tablets.

The WILSON SLEEK provides a great enhancement of my MIFI unit giving it a strong passive VERIZON SIGNAL as well as increasing my foot print range of the developed WIFI signals around my local position location.

My basic problem is something similar to what you may be experiencing with connections. Using the WIFI signals to connect to your devices is what you need to develop for your tablets to work.

In my F150 Truck I can also set my Verizon DROID CELLPHONE in the WILSON CRADLE and it will enhance the DROID operations very good. Of Course having the DROID CELLPHONE sitting in the cradle makes it hard to operate so I really depend on the F150 BLUETOOTH application to link to my truck console panel which is what I use to make cellphone calls etc. This also has a great handsfree VOICE operations which is what I use the most.

Doing anything else requiring my DROID keyboard or screen operations is pretty much nulled out when it is sitting in the WILSON CRADLE.

You most definitely would have to be stationary to use the devices in this manner. NO WAY would I attempt any of this while trying to drive my truck.

The folks that have the larger DATABASE plans really like using their devices with the WILSON SLEEK unit. MILLENICOM is one of these 20GB DATAPLAN setups.

Hope some of this is helpful for you...
