Has anyone ever replaced the battery in their iPhone? My daughter needs a new one for hers & was asking. Need to ask her if she can't get an upgrade @ this time.

depends on which iPhone and how handy you are...there are many guides on the internet.. but you need to take the phone apart to do it...very easy for some... incredibly daunting for others

"Daunting". Now there's a word you don't hear everyday. Check youtube for videos on changing the battery. I haven't looked, but am amazed at what they have on their about repairing things.

I replaced the battery in my iphone 4.It is very easy to do, with a little common sense and care.You need one of those tiny specialty screwdriver sets to take the phone apart.2 really small star head screws have to be removed on the bottom of the phone beside the charging port.Once you pull the screws out, the case opens up. There is a little screw inside right beside the battery that holds a little tab in place. Remove that. Then the battery comes up out of the phone body. There is a tab / contact attached to the battery that has to be very carefully placed into the phone.Be sure to be very careful with the little ribbon cable that goes to the phone. It is easy to break it.And when you place the new battery in the phone, be sure to get the cable properly placed and replace the screw that holds the tab down.As you remove the old one, make very careful note of how it comes apart so you can put it back the same way.It took me about ten minutes altogether to change the battery.It has been a couple years now so I forget the exact details, but this is very close to what I did.

There are several youtube videos on how to do it. Looks simple enough for the average DIYer. There are also places that will do it for you for a fee. Is she positive it is the battery. Not time for an upgrade sounds like she may have either damaged the phone or something? Just a bit fishy. They should last through many dozens of rechargings before needing replacement

I think hers is a 4 & she's had it a couple of years so it probably the battery. She can probably do it herself but I think she did get a couple of names of friend's husbands who can do it. This time of year their budget is just a little tight so she is trying to get something done to get her by for awhile. Thanks for the suggestions!

Is she sure it's the battery? If it quit all of a sudden, it may just need to be reset. Try holding down the power on button and the select button at the same time until the apple appears, then release.

If it is the battery, like others have said, there are lots of videos online showing how to do it.

As some have said it can be done. If you are not comfortable with small circuit boards and connectors, prying a case open that is not made for you to open it, and ordering a battery that "should" fit online, then go to an Apple store and let them do it. At least if it does not work after, they will be responsible to get it working again. The tech there has done hundreds, if not more.

If you are comfortable with the process, try it. DIY will be cheaper.

Recommend asking the local Apple Store for price. If not, there are usually local vendors with plenty of practice.

Iphone4's are pretty easy, once you get the glue under the battery to let loose. The I5's are like the 3G, the you open from the front, the screen pops up, it's a little tricky to get it up the first time though. Some folks pry up the screen on the I5's, but I use a large suction cup on them , without having to pry at all.If you had it right here ,I'd do it real quick for you.lol

I replaced my battery too and when finished my camera will not work anymore. Took it back apart and that connector (last one of 7) appeared to be connected. One of the 3 for the screen is a small ribbon that slides into a connector that's hard to get back in as it's not very stiff so hard to make it slide back into the connector. My camera still does not work. If it's a 3GS... good luck.
