Is my Wilson Sleek broken or do i not know how to use it?

This is the one I got used on craigslist. I drove out to flat farmland, 15 minutes from town. Two bars, no/intermittent data, and 103db without the sleek. Plugged in the sleek and put the antenna...

Thanks, folks!

I didn't know about the distance thing. I had my phone in the cradle. and the antenna on the roof. Maybe 3" away, but the roof IS metal. No poptop or even sunroof.

Would that cause the db rating to be unchanged in/out of cradle?

I also had the phone plugged in, it and the sleek in the same double usb jack, cables roughly parallel. Is that bad?
