Wilson Sleek, heat

I've been using a Wilson Sleek cell-signal antenna off & on for about a year and it works great but it does generate significant heat. From what I've read, that would seem to be 'normal'. But wouldn't this heat damage the batteries in the phone, jet pack, etc. over time?
  • i have had one for years
i use it so much my phone is usually plugged into a 12v usb phone charge adapter (not a cheap $3 adapter) while sitting in the sleek cradle

i take it for granted, that the phone will need a new battery every 2yrs maybe sooner

from what i can tell the sleek, does NOT harm the battery or speed up the process of needing a new one

My WILSON SLEEK is in my truck and I always sit my cellphone in the cradel- Have never really noticed much heat coming from the back of the Sleek. Will have to check for that. I have one since 2009 now. It is an older 3G unit with external antenna...

When we are in camping mode it sits up near the roof of my POPUP behind a VALANCE CURTAIN where i have a 120VAC outlet. This is my so called MIFI unit docking location - out of sight.

  • My new sleek does get warm. I try not to use it for hours at a time.
  • I've noticed mine gets warm from the phone trying to download updates while in a poor reception area. Turning off updates or moving the setting to wifi only for updates seems to help. Is your Sleek in the sun while driving?
  • I don't use it while driving just when camping & run it off my 12V system. It only gets hot when I am actually using the phone or internet.
  • While running my Wilson booster my phone has occasionally said the battery is overheated and performance is reduced. I don't see the big deal. $125 booster, $600 smartphone that I pay $80 a month to use. $15-20 replacement battery every 18 months. So what if it only lasts 75% as long before needing replaced.
