How much was your actual usage and are you under a Verizon contract?

With these answers, we can give you some advice.

Streaming HD Video uses about 2gb per hour. The math will be pretty simple from there. Hotspots with data caps are not for streaming movies..........

If you have a Verizon contract, you're probably stuck with it until the contract is completed. Millenicom resells Verizon, and with their Jetpack you get 20gb a month for $70 - much better deal IMHO.

We rarely stream movies, and our normal usage as fulltimers runs around 8-9gb a month.

We too have the Verizon Jetpack. They made our contract retroactive for the month and it reduced what we would have had to pay by about $50.00. They changed it from 10GB to 16GB. That was the highest they offered. The plan is called "Share Everything".

Not sure how your plan works... but I can check the usage on my Jetpack every couple of days and have the option of changing/adding more data in 2gb increments as needed at $10 per/2gb. I also have the option of back-dating, adding pro-rated data or simply increasing my limits. I also get message alerts at preset intervals to insure that I don't get charged any high priced overages.

If they told you that you could stream movies the answer is yes. If they told you that you could stream movies and stay under your plan limits, they were incorrect. I have my Jetpack set up to send me alerts when I'm 50%, 75% and 100% of my monthly usage. Also, if you are using Windows 8, there are constant updates happening in the background. You need to set Windows 8 to the "metered" connection setting. Verion will look at your usage and make recommendations for the proper package. If you want movies, you may have to up your GB.

What Greg said. It's also my understanding that if during your billing period you raise your gb level, you can reduce it back to a lesser lever if you do it before the end of the billing period. This keeps them from charging you for the higher level on the next billing period.

We find our data usage is far less than that under most circumstances. For example, Netflix permits to you to set the quality of the video stream you receive and, at the lowest quality setting (which is adequate for much of what we watch), the data usage is more like 1GB/2 hrs (roughly one movie).

If you insist on using a service, such as DirecTV Cinema which insists on downloading movies in full 1080p, then your data usage may be much higher.

Have had the Jetpac for years and we never use our 8 GB allowance. I use the internet as much as I want and so does my wife. But......we don't stream movies. Thats just way too much to expect from a Jetpac.
