light bulbs

So the "Cree" brand LEDs are good? I've seen that name around, and they seem to be the least expensive so far.

Do you have a link to them? I know where to buy LEDs and I agree they are far superior to CFLs.

Feit, Cree and Sylivania are the three I have. As far as cost there are several factors I consider, life of the lamp, light produced, color, and what the the DW says. So far the DW says"I love the new lights". The one in the office is in a Three lamp fixture and is my favorite, the three in the ceiling fan fixture in guest bedroom are three for $14.00 at COSTCO, the one in my nightstand fixture is the most noticable in coolness, old style melted a clock the new LED doesn't even get warm. The track lights use 75 and 100 watt lamps and the DW didn't know I had changed to LEDs. Some of the lamps have that delay of a second or so but the temp, color and hopefully longevity are worth the delay and extra cost.

The LEDs are also easier on prints, photos and paintings. I think CFRLs and tubes cause the most fading and the LEDs create none(info I read in tech paper).

I'm still experimenting with 12VDC for RV and so far I like the good old USA brands even though they cost a lot more.

Bumpy. Remember...... You'll probably be dead before the LED bulbs will be. You'll likely NEVER have to replace one.

Don't dismiss the old incandescent bulbs entirely. A 100 watt bulb not only lights your house on a cold, dark winter night, but also emits 100 watts of heat to help keep you warm! Its more efficient than you realize. A CFL or LED bulb will produce the equivalent of a 100W bulb, but it sure won't help to heat your house.

I am not going to read four more pages of this misinformation. If anyone wants the name of a company that makes incandescent lamps, PM me. They have a permit to continue after the deadline is reached. They only produce heavy duty bulbs and they are more expensive than GE, Sylvania, etc.

I will not use CFLs..... I have started experimenting with LED lamps and so far only one is a disappointment. Some of the LED bulbs have a two or three second delay but I can live with that. So far there are only two lamps that I have not found replacements for, a 100watt decorator bulb about 4 inches in diameter and the 50 watt halogen spot lights over our sofa. The equivalent LED is too soft and really is a flood. I haven't looked but at one so far.

Don't be alarmed; these steps are only precautions that reflect best practices for cleaning up a broken CFL. Keep in mind that CFLs contain a very small amount of mercury -- less than 1/100th of the amount in a mercury thermometer.

It's not THAT big of a deal. Fluorescent 40 watt shop light tubes contain more mercury than CFLs.
