Go to your PROCESSES and look at all the items under the CPU listing which are using the processor..



Then you can determine what all programs are stealing your processor..

Hint.. With nothing open you should have 97%-99% "System idle process"..

As long as your netbook has a vga connection (and it does), and your TV has one, all you need is the cable. It'll work just fine, especially for basic reading needs.

SOME TVs (smaller sizes) may have a VGA port. the 32" TV in our MH has one as did a smaller 19" on my desk at home. most of the TVs I looked at recently had just an HDMI.

win7 is designed for 4 core 64 bit processors
unless you are running a special 32 bit 2 core version

i would avoid any 2 core machine with win7 or win8
or i would install Win XP , on that machine

i have 5 windows and about 20 tabs, and i'm showing 3% cpu useage
my reason for an i-5 4 core is video processing

Mex.. you have so bad stuff rolling around your PC.. The only time I have ever seen a processor maxed out is when it has a non responding program, virus or adware..

I have 1%CPU usage and only 28 processes running.

In contrast my work PC due to IT installed stuff that I can not remove runs about 70 processes all the time..

I typically find that many folks who have very slow running PCs will also have 10-20 "tray" icons.. Those tray Icons are CPU and memory hogs, basically put those programs are "running" and taking up valuable processor and memory..

I clean mine down to 5 or 6 which helps greatly..

The processors and disk should not be running flat out. Task Manager and resmon can help track down resource usage.

However by being limited by using a Telcel phone on a computer line I am crippled as far as doing fast searches

Given this a faster laptop won't help. It will help for offline for offline processing.

Based on this thread you need connectivity to the TV or monitor and readability, not high processor speed. A store manager might say no to trying your laptop while if you asked the floor person he might be willing. Provided you have the cables etc and they think you'll buy so they get the commission. Worth trying. Or try a computer repair shop and explain your case. I'd be very familiar with all of the PC options to change font type size and screen size and prepared with some text files.

Any friends in SD that could help with some tests?

Others keep suggesting a TV which is fine if the resolution is adequate for you. Video is one thing and text is another relative to clarity on a TV in my experience.

Whatever you buy will have some resale value down the road if no longer needed.

^^^ THIS is pretty much the answer.

First and foremost it is actually your INTERNET CONNECTION and the EXTRA AD GARBAGE which is being dragged along with what you really want to see that causes very slow web pages..

For instance, the PC I am typing on right now is a Intel P4 at 2.8 ghz with Hyper threading.. I am running XP with 2 gig of ram.. My wired ISP connection is a T1 equivalent but my PC only has a 10/100 nic card.

My work PC is a Dual core at 2.2 ghz, 4 gig of ram running Win7 and while the IT department has faster than T1 connection the PC only has 10/100 nic connection..

My HOME PC loads Internet pages with the SAME speed as my work PC..

To keep that comparison as fair as possible I am using Firefox with Adblock Plus on BOTH PCs..

Before my P4 at home I was running a P3 at 733 mhz with 1 gig of ram and Win98.. Never even noticed any difference in internet speed when I moved to the P4 system.

The only place where I noticed a speed difference was when dealing with pictures and video that was ON the hard drive or opening some software.

If you are accessing the Internet via "wireless" then the "wireless" is is often your bottleneck.. WifFi connections automatically will negotiate on the fly the connection speed as you use it.. So if you have a weak signal it will DROP the speed until the wireless card gets enough good data packets.. A 54mb wireless card can drop down to 1-2 MB as the signal strength varies..

Ideally when working from wireless you NEED to block as much as possible unwanted "ads".. Those things chew up your bandwidth and have higher "priority" over the other webpage "data".. This means the "ads" load FIRST, then non ads load LAST.. The result is you WAIT a long time before you get to see your webpage.
