No Help or information?

I'm an early riser, alway's have been...and at almost 65 years of age, have a very stong "work ethic"..something that seems to be "wanting" in to day's time and age....

What I like about K-Mart, Wally World and a few others, along with Camping World, is that they open early for us "early birds"..I shop at Camping World of Asheville, (though it's outside Asheville off I-26)....I get there a couple minutes after 8 and doors are locked...I happen to run into an employee who is coming in and he unlocks door and let's me in....I thank him and head on my mission, the purchase of a couple outside chaise chairs and Ottomans to match..I haul them to the check out counter at about 8:10, look around (no one at the registers, and 4 or 5 men standing around shooting the breeze, (probably rv sales..part2 of my story)....After standing at check out for about another 10 mins, one guy looks at me and ask if he can help with any "information"...I tell him, no that I'd like to purchase the two chairs and ottomans and THEN, and ONLY then, am I given the helpful information that, Oh, the computers are down., can't make the purchase..SOOOOO, after standing for about 10 mins. or so with people not even 20' away from me and being the ONLY customer in the store end , I tell them thanks and wished I hadn't wasted my time, if someone could have told me, I'd left about 08:05. So, no chairs, no ottomans and I wanted to look at a couple of the Fusion TH's, but after no attention at all until 08:21, decided they have more business than they can handle....so I left.

I was brought up with a strong work ethic...If store is going to be "OPEN" at 8am, I would expect doors to be OPEN at 8am and someone manning the registers...and if there is an issue where I can't make a purchase, I should have been informed in a timely manner.

I know, no big deal, but it's a 35 minute drive from where I live on the other side of Asheville and traffic is rough that time of the morning....All that to say, a little more information to a paying customer, "bright and early", might have made for a better "shopping experience'... I'm a Supervisor in a Major Manufacturing Plant close to that area and if my employees didn't show up and be at work stations at start up, it could get ugly for me with "MY" boss and my people with me....But "work ethic" is a phrase not understood very well in today's world, and not used that much either.

True statement....sell and "good-bye"...and not just CW....but dang, even had two $10 coupons.....may go back this weekend once I get the bad taste out of my mouth......or not...I set in some pretty funky traffic while on 26 where some stinking road construction is going on....

    Jim ,

I couldn't agree more... I have been known to walk away from a store that has advertised hours and the ( younger ) employees feel that its more important to chat about their dates last night then it is to open on time..

Growing up I worked at an Exxon Gas station , when I filled on for the weekend gang that meant we opened at 6:00..

My routine had me there at 5:30...lights on first so people knew we were open,, than unlock the pumps (earlier if customers came in)..

That cant be found now a days.. and my wife just keeps telling me that I am getting old..

Know what you mean....At 12, (1962), I had a morning paper route...PIcked up 75 newspapers and delivered them in a couple neighborhoods...Got up anywhere from 4:40 to 5am, delivered papers 7 day's a week, rain, snow, freezing temps...didn't matter, I delivered those papers for 2 and 1/2 years..IF I missed someone, got a call and had to get a paper to them....(if during school), I just had to pay for it..in the summer, it was on me. Collected for those papers every Friday, paid my bill and pocketed the extra cash:).

Yep, "Open at 8" means just that....but not at some places....a "piddly" complaint...but how many do you have to hear before something changes....There is a right way and a wrong way to do business and along with "work ethic" and "common sense"...yet another phrase that has gone by the way side is "customer satisfaction".... Such is life as we know it in the year 2015.......seems some just don't care.....(Bet if I was buying a 200,000 motor home, they'd been all over me...:).......though I was looking at some quite expensive TH's....but...
