The 5 series is not all that old. The 5c was the last of the series & it was just replaced with the 6 & 6+ not long ago.
If you are full timing then Verizon may be the way to go. Many full timers have it for the reasons of coverage area & internet access ( Jet Pack ).
Myself, I don't full time & because I hate contracts, I purchased a "certified" used iphone 5s & use Page Plus for the provider. Page Plus has the same coverage area & uses Verizon towers. I own the phone, so I can change to any CDMA provider I want at anytime without contract, just by changing the sim card. I purchased the 5s, 2 months ago for $250, it was less than a year old. I have 1200 minutes talk, 3000 text messages &
500 MB data monthly for $31 & that includes all taxes.
If you want Verizon service, talk with them about providing your own phone.
