Prevent laptop sliding around non-permanently, inexpensively

I'm looking to mount a 17" laptop non-permanently to the top of this cabinet. The wall behind the cabinet is the front wall of the trailer. I wish to make no permanent changes to either the cabinet or the laptop.

Needs to be kept stable both while the trailer is in motion and at rest.

Oh and a catch: The laptop will be sitting on this stand to keep it cool. It's getting older and overheats too often.

Edit: No one will be in the trailer, but the laptop will be running as a media server for our Android phones. Movies, music, etc. We're tight on storage space on those devices, and also we're low on weight capacity in the tow vehicle, so the laptop should ride in the trailer. Since the forward motion of the trailer is behind the laptop, there's less concern about it slipping forward or backward off the countertop. But I am concerned about it slipping side-to-side.

Would you use something like this? Any other ideas?

  • Find or build a tray that the laptop can sit in. Use Velcro to secure tray to cabinet top. Use Velcro to provide additional in attaching laptop to tea. Leave airflow space and don't apply Velcro over any laptop air vents. The tray should have a lip large enough to protect the laptop.
