Samsung Galaxy Tab A Tablet with Torque-Pro

I had used an older Motorola phone with Torque-Pro in my motorhome for a long time and was very happy with the combo, but now the phone has died and I need to replace it. I’m interested to have a larger display and was looking at purchasing a refurbished Samsung Galaxy Tab A with 7" Touchscreen as the replacement. This tablet is Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/GPS capable and the screen would allow more dials to be displayed and be a lot easier for me to read. My question is, would I be buying a Bluetooth connectivity problem with this Samsung tablet? The phone uses the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system. I’d appreciate hearing from anyone with experience using Samsung devices in combination with Torque-Pro to let me know if this purchase is a Bluetooth problem waiting to happen, or if the Samsung issues have been resolved over time. Thanks in advance

  • Just to close on this issue, I did purchase the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7 inch tablet and I have an OBDlink LX connector. I took the tablet to the motorhome with the connector, hooked it up and it paired up perfectly. There were no issues whatsoever. So if anyone has similar ideas based on my experience you can go ahead and use the two together.
  • Thanks for your replies. If you go to the Forum on the Torque-bhp website, you will find multiple threads about Bluetooth connectivity issues between Samsung devices and OBDII data-link connectors. These issues caused the two devices to not be able to pair with one another. The problems were caused by either connector or Samsung device Bluetooth issues (or both). At the time, there was a lot of programing effort at the maker of Torque as well as Samsung to correct the issues. Unfortunately, when using the Search function on the website, you can't search by date, so the search results are indiscriminately spread (in no particular order) between present day and all the way back to 2010. So I was curious if the Bluetooth issues were still present. From what I've seen here and other forums where I posed the same question, the answer seems to be no, so I've gone ahead and ordered the refurbished Samsung tablet to use in my MH. If it doesn't work, I will just bring it back.

Separately, I was asked why I don't just use my current phone for Torque monitoring. Two reasons: 1) I don't want to tie up my primary phone when driving the MH on a trip, and 2) when in use with Torque and the GPS, the phone works pretty hard and internal phone temps get pretty high. I'd rather have that going on with a separate dedicated device rather than my main phone. Thanks
  • I've used Torque Pro on a Samsung S3, S5, S7 and Nexus 7. Worked on every device. Prefer the Samsung devices for higher screen brightness and better touch sensitivity.

The answer is: I do not know.
I have two 'Droids here, one is a Samsung Galaxy S-5 Phone and the other is an RCA Viking tablet (Very low end) Both work well with one OBD-II Blue Tooth adapter but.. The first OBD-ii Adapter I bought gave no joy.

My best "Guess" is ... If it worked with the Motorola.. IT will work with the Samsung.. I anticipate no problems. Give it a try.
  • What Samsung issues? I have not used TorquePro on my Galaxy Tab 4 but I have never had any trouble with the Bluetooth on it. It's only running Android 4.4.

Just curious, do you not have a current phone you can use?
