Satellite Connection Issue

Just picked up our 2014 Sprinter Copper Canyon 269FWRLS 5th Wheel. Waited on the dealership since 2/22/14 to figure out a hitch configuration w/the items in the bed of our truck(B&W Hidden Gooseneck)We ended up taking everything out.Hauled 5vr straight back to campground where our tradein had been parked.Have regular Dish Network Satellite and it was operating fine on the trade in. Our new 5vr is Satellite Prep w/RG-6 cable and the connection for the coax from the satellite on the outside(inside docking station)of 5vr. If we connect the coax to the outside(docking station) connection it does not work. If we run coax straight through the front door directly to the unit it works fine. So it is not on our side. Is there some place that a fitting could have came loose, because we also have satellite connection for the coax on the roof in the bedroom. Our receiver is for two televisions. The television in bedroom is working fine off satellite coax splitter provided by Dish. There has to be a fitting some where in/on trailer that was not tightened or has worked loose. Thank you for any help. Also, is there a place that we are supposed to register our new Keystone?
  • Make sure if you have an antenna, that the antenna amplifier is turned off.
  • I don't have the same model but do have a 13 Keystone fiver. On mine, the sat prep connection in the waterworks area feeds directly to the main tv in the living room. There should be two coax outlets at the main entertainment center. One is the sat prep direct to waterworks, the other is the park cable/batwing antenna circuit. As long as you are using the sat prep connection only you should receive dish signal. If not then the wire from the waterworks to the living room is the culprit. I know that I can access behind the waterworks area by removing the rear basement storage panel where I can access the coax where it connects to the waterworks receptacle. You might check that connector first. Good luck.

Generally when they say "Wired for Satellite" it means that RG-6 cable you found goes to the middle (roughly) of the roof. NOT to the connection in the basement.

That connection in the basement (unless there are two, or more, of them) is usually for park cable.. It runs to either your box of many buttons or wall plate.

If this is the case my personal recommendation is to ignore Winegard's suggestion of re-tasking, (unless that is they used RG-6 for that line too) and put in a good quality RG-6 cable to a bulkhead or basement connector.

Do you have 2 connections in the outside bay where you are trying to connect the satellite coax? If you only have one then that connection is the one that would be used for a camp ground cable connection and will not work with satellite. In some cases the cable can be modified to work with satellite but in many 5th wheels this connection goes through one or more splitters many it dead to a satellite connection.
If you have 2 connections in that bay they should be marked cable and satellite (or similar) and it's possible the manufacturer simply hooked the cables up wrong.
In the entertainment area where your satellite receiver is located, you do you have any cabling or wall plates that are marked "satellite" or similar? If you go on the roof, do you see a label that says something like "drill here for satellite prep"?
  • If you can, check continuity between the outside jack and the inside. On my last trailer, had the same issue, turns out the F connector fitted to the outside jack was shorted. Repaired the connector and all was good.
