- GordonThreeExplorerStill waiting on how to dvr a live Internet streaming service (record, not download)
Good on you folks that live where broadcast TV is an option. Rural Michigan where I do most of my camping, there's not much broadcast availability. There's the Spanish version of QVC, a religious zealotry channel or three, and PBS in three or four different aspect ratios and picture qualities - not a huge deal, I don't live in my RV and when I'm camping I don't need the tv except when it's carp weather, just sayin OTA isn't everywhere. - 2oldmanExplorer II

Free? You'll pardon my skepticism about what sort of content I'd get for free.
Get a Roku box at Walmart and hook it up if you have internet and be amazed at the 1000's of channels and many are Free.2112 wrote:

Stop high jacking my thread and go watch CNN.. - Campfire_TimeExplorerWow, I'm speechless. There is so much mis-information in this thread I don't know where to start.
All the info anyone needs about cutting the cord is easy to find. And even then not all of that is accurate because this is changing weekly.
Here's a good place to start: https://www.cutthecord.com/. Info about Directv Now is already outdated as they have changed plans available to new subscribers. And yes, they have an online DVR, as does Sling TV.
OTA DVRs are getting common, two of the most popular are Tablo and Amazon Recast. - Shot-N-AzExplorerStreaming cures cancer!!!!!!
- GulfcoastExplorerPlease show me how to legally get THOUSANDS of TV channels that you guys have mentioned above.

I assume you are referring to cellphone towers. There are no towers required for satellite.
That will be great. But - will they rip down all those goddawful towers that ruin the landscape? - pasusanExplorer

The next big advance in internet will be Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. Elon Mush of Spacex and Tesla is in the process of launching thousands of satellites for Starlink.

Where I live it's either satellite or personal hotspot. There isn't a cable running in front of my property and blanket community WIFI will never happen out here.
Why do I want to count GB like counting calories? My DISH is streaming video to me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many times the TV is on for nothing more than background noise. A personal hotspot would cost me a small fortune for that. My DISH satellite internet has something like 20G/month before it slows down. How many days does that get me streaming video before I burn it up? DW can eat up a good portion of the 20G just on FB.
There are programs we watch that are uniquely Texas such as Day Tripper, Texas Bucket List and Texas Country Reporter. Are they available to stream? Can I record the OTA programs to view later?
You haven't convinced me I would be pleased with the change just to save a few bucks, if I even do that.
On Edit: I noticed right now we have 3 TV's on 3 different channels going at once. Do I tell my MIL she can't watch HGTV while I watch the morning news or I tell my DW she has to turn off QVC? - BumpyroadExplorerI don't enjoy watching movies and have them frequently pause and catch up and start again. i like my cable/dish etc.
