Scanning photos?

I have an HP printer with scanning capabilities.
I tried to scan some old photos into my Dell computer without success.
I had to scan them to an SD card then upload them to my computer.
That being done, I wish to send them as an attachment in email.
Can not do. What steps do I need to take?
Need help, thanks.

  • are you using a USB cable to connect to the printer ?
did you install the HP software from the disc that came with the printer ?

the pictures should go in my pictures or my documents

they will be named scan_001 scan_002 etc..
    they are normally JPG files

they do not scan into your email
    they scan into the folder
you then compose your email and add the picture as an attachment
    while writing the email
  • OK, does it work for other photos? Can you open the suspect photos using another program to insure they're 'good'? Are the files too large and you're not being warned about that or you're not seeing it?

It's pretty common to have file size restrictions on attachments.

What exactly can you not do? Can't find them, they're too big.. what?

You may find it easier to take a picture of the picture with your phone and email to yourself, or the intended recipient of the aforementioned email.

When I compose an email and go to the bottom where the little paperclip is, click on that and find my photos in "my pictures"
click on that picture and then click open. nothing happens, it does not show up as attached so I can not send it.
  • You need to take this a step at a time.

1.Get the HP's scanning utility, and scan the photo, saving it to your computer.
2.Figure out where on the computer that scanned picture file is. Redirect as needed.
3.Resize the photo. Picasa will do it. I like Pixresizer. There are more.
4.Write the email, use the "attach" button, aimed at that resized photo.
    5.Bingo.

  • To send an attachment (photo or otherwise) just compose your email and click "Add attachment". Select the folder where you stored them, then select the photo you want to send.

Your scanner will have a selection for destination - make sure it says "My Pictures" or the like. Also, you may have scanned your photo and saved it as a .tif instead of .jpg. Check for that option.

Use search to find where your scanned photos were saved e.g. search for all .jpgs created today.
  • Does your computer have a built in SD Card reader? If not, you will need a portable reader. But, I agree to try the suggestion above.
  • Maybe it is scanning and the photos are being placed in unamed folders. Try checking all folders. Documents, pictures etc.
