Stop Microsoft Auto Updates NOW!!
Do not allow the Microsoft auto updates for now on Win 7& 8 machines. If you received one in the last couple days and have not rebooted your computer I would advise against rebooting until you back everything up and see if you can roll back the update.
We had a corrupt MS update totally disable one computer today and another poster on this forum experienced the same thing.
Our computer that is affected is only 4 months old and the Dell Pro Support tech said they have been over run with the problem the last couple days. They have experienced better luck recovering the Win 7 machines than the Win 8 machines.
It does not appear to be a virus but a corrupt boot file that will not permit the computer to boot.
Sorry I am not more up to date technically on this stuff but I would not do an update until this stuff is sorted out.
