Swap audio system

Congratulations!

I got it installed and it is working fine..a piece of cake..If the trailer wiring had gone as well it would have been good.But we all know that trailer wiring was invented to try the patience of otherwise good people..We are now a little further up the technology curve!!Not Ipod or mp3 far,but further!!

In my RV I had to do a bit of modification to get a new "Head unit" installed. I had the old school cassette from the 1980's that had the traditional dual knobs. I also had the same vintage TV and VCR.



I first had to remove the old radio and then cut out the rectangle for the new unit. I used the above mentioned sleeve as the template and in it slid.



As you can see, the radio was not all I upgraded. But the radio itself was very easy to do. I did have to hard wire in the new plug for the new radio, but that was 12v power and 4 pairs of speaker wires.

Removable stereos make replacement super easy.
The sleeve typically just has some tabs that you unbend to slide it right out.

Thanks to Mr.Wizard, I now know what a DIN is,always willing to learn and there is a lot I don't know..I had never heard of a DIN before!

Before you get crazy taking that dash out go on line and look it up how to remove one!!

I thought the same too and found out, actually from this forum, how to take it out myself. There is frame or mounting around it that does come out to access replacement with OUT dismantling the dash.

Unless your RV is over 40 years old they ALL just pop out thru the radio opening. Some you might need a tool and some are tricky but IMHO do take the time to research it before you proceed!

My radio died in my MH. I pulled into one of those stereo system places. Heck they wanted over $500.00 to replace my radio.:R

Went to Walmart. They have an entire wall of different brand name auto stereos the SAME as the stereo shop and a WHOLE lot cheaper.

You pull the old one out and put the new one in. Sounds great and yes it was also the type you could pull out if felt the need to. Could not have been any easier and sounded waaaay better than the OEM radio! :B

radios are NOW a standard size
either 1 DIN
or 2 DIN

you replace the stereo with another the same size

you get a NEW mounting bracket/receiver slot with the NEW radio

you will have to swap the speaker and power wires from the old bracket to the NEW bracket
