Tailgater 211k Software

Anybody ever lost the Tailgater programing in the 211k? My Dish Tailgater stopped working. I have checked all the usual stuff like check switch, new coax cable. I use a 211k receiver in the house and use the same receiver for the RV. It works in the house but does not recognize the Tailgater like it use to ie...no state location screen just right to a signal search then does not find a signal.

The Tailgater worked fine the last time I used it when I put it away. The only thing that has changed is that Dish tech came out to the house and installed a new HD dish on the house and then setup the receiver for the new dish. Don't know if he could have done anything to the receiver that would affect the Tailgater. Just trying to figure out if it's the Tailgater or the 211k?

I will have to follow this topic, as I have been considering putting a permanent dish on my house roof as well. Presently, I have been using the tailgater cube on my deck in order to use the 211k receiver here at my house. It works fine, but every time I walk out on my deck I seem to hear the cube "doing it's thing", i.e. whirring. I am just afraid it's gonna wear it self out over time. Hence, I was thinking about using a permanent dish to give it a rest here at home.

But, if it's gonna screw things up, forget about it!

We have a Tailgater and when we are at our home base that has a regular dish the 211 automatically recognizes the dish without any problems, when we go back to the Tailgater it changes back to that programing.

To the OP the service person should not have had to do anything to the receiver to make it work on a standard dish it's all automatic.

  • I run the Tailgater with my RV and when I return home I connect my 211K to a 1000.2 fixed dish to keep my 211K software up to date.

On occasion I would have to clear the check switch setting when connecting to the Tailgater upon arrival to my RV destination. To do this I would run a check switch test with no antenna attached then save setting upon finding no dish, attach Tailgater and run test again to establish connection to Tailgater.

The only time my 2121K is not connected to 110 power is when traveling to or from RV destinations.

    Hope this helps
  • I would check with the dish installer and see what they say about setup of a fixed dish and if it will affect your tailgater. I had a HD fixed dish on my last house and the Tailgater worked fine. As I mentioned in previous post my tailgater worked fine when I put it away and the only thing I changed was the fixed HD dish on the new house???? I will let you know if I find another 211k to try to find out if it's the tailgater or the 211k.

Do you turn off the power to your tailgater each night so it has to go though a gain each day? ..
Nope. I never turn it off except to pack it up to go camping. When it "whirrs", it is only for a few seconds, and only once in a while. It does it even when the TV is not turned on, and there is no channel changing for it to deal with.
  • Do you turn off the power to your tailgater each night so it has to go though a gain each day? If not the only time it should move is when it's looking for a channel and it should be quick When I am dry camping and using inverters and batteries I turn off the dish receiver when not watching TV and it went into startup each time. I think over time there would be additional wear and tear if it was to do this all the time.

From what I have read there was nothing the dish installer could have done to screw up my Tailgater so I would go ahead and do the fixed dish and save the Tailgater. I am however going to check with a local Sat shop and see if they have a 211k hooked up where I can test my Tailgater on their receiver..

  • Have you tried clearing the 211k's satellite memory by running a check switch with no antenna connected?
