Tricking DirecTV...extending the dvr recording

Today's Nascar race may have a rain delay. What can I do to guarantee that I will record the entire race even though it may finish four or more hours after the scheduled time. I know that I can add ...

For short extensions pushed by golf or basketball games I usually use the "add time" feature just to avoid interruptions in playback. But for long delay situations there's absolutely no problem with just recording the following shows.
