I looked all of them and the Roku 3 looks interesting. Not having used any of these, how much data do they use? I have a Verizon MiFi unit and while it works well, they're proud of their data ($$). Does using one of these really use up your data?
Though I have a 40GB Verizon plan, I'm still hesitant to do much streaming. - TrackrigExplorer II

- Lexicon7ExplorerWow that's a lot of great info! Thanks to all for the great posts.
One thing I failed to mention is that I'm actually looking to pick up something like AT to occupy my time. I have rotator cuff surgery coming up in a couple of weeks and will be watching a lot of tube I fear. With that in mind, what would be best to use here at home as well as full timing or maybe I should just get the home setup and rethink the entire thing later since there are many months until winter once again comes around... Morgan - jpmihalkExplorerThere are other services in addition to Apple TV that provide the same kind of streaming services. I just replaced the older LCD TV in the living area of my RV with a larger LCD TV with built-in Roku. It gets Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services as well as over the air TV, Xbox 360 and my satellite receiver all using one remote.
I have an Apple TV at home and use it with the rest of our Macs/iPads, etc. on our local network. We occasionally watch content on the Apple TV that isn't available elsewhere, but there is probably 95 percent overlap with the other services. - APTExplorerWhat does it offer that a notebook does not besides ease of use?
- TrackrigExplorer IIDepending on where you're parked in Q, we've also picked up 4 - 6 digital TV stations from Phoenix on the old bat wing antenna.
Bill - TInmaniaExplorerIf you only want the Apple TV for Netflix and are not invested in other Apple products, you can do better than an Apple TV. The current Apple TV design has not been updated since 2010 and is getting long in the tooth.
For example, an Amazon Fire TV stick is less than half the price of an Apple and has a much faster interface. It will run Netflix and just about any other app available on Apple TV.
I generally rip the DVDs I own rather than watch on a DVD player. I keep a few on my Samsung Note 4 smartphone. Last week at a campsite we had neither wifi nor cellular signal. But I was able to mirror my Note 4's display to my TV via Amazon fire tv firestick and watch a movie since my DW wasn't feeling well and wanted to stay inside.
For just Netflix I would recommend something other than an Apple TV. Due note I have 2 Apple TVs at home, 3 macs, and an iPad.
Michael - Lexicon7ExplorerMichael, thanks for the informative response. I am not out there yet as I am having some health issues but have full timed before and loved it. I will be full timing off grid starting in the Quartzsite area next winter and now just doing early research. I mainly just want Netflix. Don't use the iTunes or anything like it, just love the convenience of A TV with all the great choices of movies and tv series... My nephew has it and it seems to be endless entertainment without stepping out of NetFlix!
