I agree with Sherlock and knowing your data needs. You may be paying for the buffet and eating just a plate or two. Paying for the big data plan or even unlimited to only need it occasionally cost a lot and usually leaves a lot of data on the table most of the time.
I started paying attention to my data usage when I turned on the hotspots. They let me watch the data tick over as I did what I do on a daily basis. I found that I can cruise the forums, ebay, craigslist and even play pogo all day long on the 12 gigs I have personally. There are a handful of you tubes in there and I even listen to hockey games a few time a week. The only time I stream video is at the end of the month and I am going to lose the data anyways.
Even with a affordable unlimited plan streaming wouldn't practical for us. Getting a signal where we camp is pretty iffy and weak if you do get one. A satellite was a better choice than trying to stream.
