Verizon Hotspot still $20/month? Maybe not.

My local Verizon store told me today that the press releases and promo materials for the new plans were wrongly showing $10 for the monthly fee for hotspots. In fact it is still $20 a month. Tablets are $10 though.

EDIT: Today 8/24 the Verizon website still shows $10 a month for hotspots on the new Verizon plan. I guess the local store manager was wrong and the printed material he showed me was wrong. Surely they would have the website correct as of today. So I'm going to assume the charge is $10/mo until we hear otherwise.

    In my case, I already have the data plan for my phones, so it is only another $10/mo for the hotspot. It's shared data.

    So is that $10 (or 20) for access charges PLUS the charge for data?

    I got all excited about their new $30 phone plan in HUGE TYPE until I notice the 6 point fine print below "plus $20 access charge". So it was really $50.

    I am currently connected by my brand new Verizon jetpack. I went to a different store and asked about it again. They assured me it is $10/month. So I got one. It is free but there is still a 2 year contract with it. So in that respect on the new plan, they are not treating it like they are treating phones.

    This may be where the confusion on the hotspot prices comes from:

    If you go to the Verizon site, they show two different "plans". The New plan MUST include a phone @ $20.00 and Tablets OR hotspots can be added for $10.00 (plus, of course, the data charge depending on the amount you choose.)

    If you don't want to include a phone, you must choose the "data only" plan, which charges $10.00 for a tablet, and $20.00 for a hotspot, plus the data amount charge.

    I got this from the Verizonwireless site if I purchase the hotspot.

    1 Data Device $20.00 per month

    4GB $30.00
    ......several other amounts...
    10GB $60.00

    Total for one device and 4GB per month is $50.

    Smartphones are a different item. They do happen to be the same $20, but you can't infer anything about hotspots from that.

    I have not had time to check the website since I started the thread. I hope I am wrong and the charge IS $10/mo. for hotspots.

    I just looked at the Verizon Wireless site and here is what it shows on the Plans page:
    All sizes include unlimited talk and text.

    Plan cost per month plus $20/month for each smartphone line. Taxes/fees apply.

    Yes but the new plans got me more data and saved me $24 per month
    All I have with them is a MiFi and a 5GB plan. Has it dropped?
