Verizon Internet Access

We've decided to get cellphone internet access for our trailer and to use Verizon as the provider with a modem/router combination device. The Verizon Jetpack Mobile Hotspot MHS291L seems to be the only one on the Verizon site that is a router and has an exterior antenna connection.

1) The Verizon site says the device is $49 with a two year contract. Monthly the charges are a $20 access charge and a $30 for 4 gig data. Would there be any other big monthly charges besides the monthly taxes and fees?

2) Any comments on the Verizon Jetpack Mobile Hotspot MHS291L?

3) Initially I want an exterior antenna but not an amplifier. Is an antenna intended for a trucker mirror mount the best sort of antenna? Any antenna recommendations?

Hey sato4000--guess the foxfi app is for android system and not my for Iphone. Can't find any similar app for the Iphone. I have unlimited data on the phone, but if I turn on the hotspot feature, it is $20 for 2 gig of date and $20. for each gig over two. Gets pretty expensive pretty fast. Any suggestions?

Google PDAnet - think they have version for Iphone not positive.

My experience with Verizon, data only with a MiFi, is that the bill is just what they say. Mine is $50 for 5 gigs monthly, and my monthly statement is $50.08.

So I guess there's 8 cents hidden charges!

Mine plan/cost is exactly the same..only difference is I have the air card (actually USB in my case).

Taxes and fees are FAR less with the aircards/MiFi than with phones in my experience...
  • The Novatel 4620LE has an external antenna connection and will work with the Cradlepoint Wifi routers that support "Wifi as Wan" including the MBR995 and 1400 models. These routers will also pull in a stronger signal if you are using the public wifi at a campground.

Verizon has been having serious problems with overbilling usage of its data customers. Check the Verizonwireless.com community forum.

We use Millenicom.com which uses the Verizon towers but is cheaper, requires no contract, and no billing problems.
