Verizon Internet Access

We've decided to get cellphone internet access for our trailer and to use Verizon as the provider with a modem/router combination device. The Verizon Jetpack Mobile Hotspot MHS291L seems to be the only one on the Verizon site that is a router and has an exterior antenna connection.

1) The Verizon site says the device is $49 with a two year contract. Monthly the charges are a $20 access charge and a $30 for 4 gig data. Would there be any other big monthly charges besides the monthly taxes and fees?

2) Any comments on the Verizon Jetpack Mobile Hotspot MHS291L?

3) Initially I want an exterior antenna but not an amplifier. Is an antenna intended for a trucker mirror mount the best sort of antenna? Any antenna recommendations?
  • I have verizon as well. You can download an app called foxfi and get internet access for no additional charge after paying 6 or 7 dollars for the app. It turns your phone into a hotspot. As long as you aren't streaming something it doesn't use much data. I have the unlimited dataplan and I leave it running for the entire trip and have as many as 4 or 5 devices hooked up to it including multiple ones streaming netflix and pandora or whatever.

We just don't use smart phones so this won't help in our case.
