Western Digital "Cloud" device

I did not want to distract from the topic about on-line backup so I wanted to know if this device is anything special or just another hard drive backup.
I would like to be able to keep all the devices, which current share one router, backed up without having to do each one from time to time. It sounds like this could all be done wirelessly and automatically so I have my own personal cloudy without the problems of trying to do that kind of a back up with only a limited data cellular connection available.

  • It's a wifi hard drive with good software. It must be affiliated with your network, and it will then store info from other devices on that network. Can even mirror an entire computer if you want it to. You can remotely access info on the My Cloud from anywhere you have an internet connection. Takes the appropriate software or app on your remote access point. Your network router must be up and running for this to happen, so if you go away, don't turn off the router or disconnect your internet connection if you want to access data on the Cloud. At the present time, its a one drive device. The future will bring multiple drive units with RAID capability, so your backup will have a backup.
  • On the learn more page it says it can be connected through a wireless system.
You may want to download manual and see what it says.

  • I guess I am not making things clear in my original post. I don't want to use any kind of USB or Ethernet connection to any device. I want this to work "like a cloud" and backup devices wirelessly without intervention using my existing in-house network.
  • My gdaughter has one. Only problem is the USB connection speed. It is capable of 3.0 but our computers run 2.0. It transfers very quickly on the 2.0. I don't know how much faster itwould on 3.0.
    Hers is a 1TB unit.
  • I have the link, I have been to the website. I was hoping for some information related to what it does, how it does it and if it will do what I would like.
