What signal meter will work?

Well, that didn't help much. I ordered a Birddog signal meter today, looks like it should do the trick.

Now for streaming, it might work where some people camp, but like I said most places we go we don't have a cell signal while using a phone signal booster. So that is not an option.

You clearly don't get the point that terresterial IP distribution is an extremely limited resource. It's interesting you continue to gloss completely over this.

Companies don't buy and merge because they are losing business, they merge to EXPAND.

How do you explain the exodus of thousands of cable subscribers and satellite clients--throwing away those su**tellite dishes. Granted, cable providers get signals from satellites and beamed to their massive earth-based stations. These earth-based station distribute these signals via super high speed fiber optics down to cell towers and web content providers. These radio signals are then picked up by providers like Amazon, Microsoft and Apple.

Direct TV had consolidated their operation with ATT while Time Warner was bought out by Comcast because of diminished customer base. These are the signs where these su**telites are headed and the condition is grim.

There is no possible way that this novelty will ever take its place

Where do you suggest we get all the cell data web based TV wants??? Assuming we're in an area with good enough cell service to carry the load. It takes me on average no more than 15 minutes to set up and aim our tripod mounted Dish triple LNB dish using an SF-50 digital meter I bought for about $50. We've been in a number of areas with poor cell service, but we've never been anywhere I couldn't hit the TV sats.

There are many Signal meters One of the best is called a Bird Dog it is a professional grade and you can pick up one USED, for about 1,000 dollars. (OUCH)

Yup A DISH receiver is one of the best signal meters made.

Use a small battery operated portable TV hooked to your Aux port or any compatible port on the Receivers to view the screen while you aim the antenna.

And that brings us full circle to the fact that the major carriers dropped unlimited data plans awhile back, and only the 2nd tier, very low coverage companies are starting it back up only to attempt boost their business up. So if traveling, either follow the carriers coverage area maps and hope for the best or bring a radio.

Not if you have unlimited plan. I use my hotspot on the road and keep the "landline" modem at home. No burning through data allowance.

Though it took a while, I'd stick with whatever method you used -- it's cheap. Good sat meters are pricey.
