We have a 25' TT (front bedroom, real living.) We want to install a Dish receiver for traveling (we're already Dish subscribers.) In our former RV there was a deep shelf below the TV where the receiver sat.The only deep shelf we have in our new unit is on the other side of the rig from the TV/AV set up. We know we have to have a new cable installed for the receiver, but do we need to have a direct connection from the Dish receiver to the TV (as I would "assume") and if so does anyone have any suggestions as to where this could be mounted?Thanks for any comments/suggestions that any of you may have.

If you're thinking you need an exposed shelf so that you can use the infrared remote... stick the receiver in a cabinet close by and use one of these rf remotes. There are several of these available and even the Dish guy will supply one if asked. Yes, he'll charge you for it but it's worth it.

I have used a small set up with a video and audio sender and a similar receiver where I didn't want to run wiring. works OK but a little finicky bumpy

Does the receiver have to be physically connected to the TV? Sounds like a dumb question, I know, but the only shelf available for the receiver is on the wall opposite the tv.

You can use a wireless device to send the signal from the receiver to the TV. These can be purchased at most electronics stores or online. Most require AC power. Be sure to explain what you are trying to do to the salesperson so they will hopefully provide the correct device. It actually has two components the transmitter you hook up to the sat receiver and the receiver you hook up to the TV.To me the easiest solution would be to place a shelf near where you need the receiver to be. Keep in mind the sat receiver doesn't have to lay flat. I keep mine on it's side with a couple of 1 inch blocks under it for air circulation. It works fine in this position.

You can use a Wireless HDMI but you will still need to have, then, the HDMI receiver by your TV. This one, for example, is about $200.If it were me, I'd use a RF remote like the one in my previous post (about $50) and put your current Dish receiver out of sight in the cabinet under or over your TV. You can put it in any direction, standing up on edge, for example. The RF remote will work on radio frequency so that you do not need to see the receiver.

Thanks, everyone. We don't have room to install a permanent shelf to hold the DVR receiver on the side where the TV is (we're towing a 24'TT and space is very limited, but we can either install a removable shelf or a steady table that we can move out of the way when we're traveling, while storing the receiver in a safe place. I think that's what we're going to do. It's not the easiest solution, but it's workable and you answered my questions. MA

What I did on our TT is install a 2nd shelf just under the TV shelf for the Sat Box,New TV's are flat screens mounted on the wall..mount the box on a shelf,dresser or mount it to the wall by a Lg velcro srip... and as for the cable from out Dish set up which I mounted on a portable Sat. dish Tripod..The cable from my dish was connected to the (cable in) port on the side of my trailer. On the inside where the cable connection was next to the bedrm TV using a short cable to the Sat. box..a HDMI cable box to tv...

The connection from the receiver to the TV does not have to be direct if it is coax. If it is HDMI, that is another story.

If it is coax, conisider that piece of wire just as another antenna wire feeding the TV.

I built a sheetmetal shelf on top of the TV for the receiver plus an A/V switch. Its a fairly tight fit, but works well.

Remember that the receiver does not have to be installed on a horizontal surface. It can be vertically wall mounted, ceiling mounted (top of cabinet) or most position that makes sense. I do not recommend any kind of a wireless connection between the receiver and the TV so plan to installing the receiver close enough to the TV that you can run an HDMI cable directly from the receiver to the TV. If the receiver ends up in a cabinet without a clear view the RF remote mentioned above solves that problem.

I beg to differ. I have the VIP211K and the RF remote, both supplied by the Dish guy... works wonderfully.

Yea, I meant to say the latest VIP211Z model.

when I upgraded to the 211 for HDef he said I was lucky that he had only the 211K since it had both F connector and HDMI.

Many newer receivers only have a HDMI out for connnection to the TV. I know my newer Directv receivers do not have coaxial out. This could be a problem if the receiver is not in a location near the tv. Food for thought.
