Windows Live Mail 2012

I recently got a notice from Microsoft that at the end of June I will no longer be able to use Windows live mail 2012 for my e-mails. I have used this for a long time and have it on my computer and laptop. Is this just another way to force me to switch to Windows 10? I have it on my laptop, and Windows 7 on my desktop. I like windows 7 by far the best and hate to change. I am not one that agrees with change. I definitely don't want to have to change my e-mail address. That would be a pain in the neck or lower.

I also use WinLiveMail 2012 with my Gmail.com and Comcast.net mail accounts (Pop3) and have not received that warning. A friend uses WLM 2012 with Hotmail and did receive that warning. I wonder if this only applies to users of Hotmail/Outlook mail accounts?

Yes. Only MS email accounts such as Hotmail.com, MSN.com & Outlook.com are effected. WLM will still work fine with other email accounts like gmail or whatever.

You can also configure WLM to work with MS accounts for email only via IMAP. This will work for email only, calendars and contacts won't sync.

I use MS OFFICE 2007 OUTLOOK for my emails... My email address is with NETZERO which used to be free and they are up to $10 now I think it is... Any POP3 account will work with MS OUTLOOK.

When we upgraded to WIN10 I declined their MS OFFICE 360 and continued to use MS OFFICE 2007.

I also declined all of the other subscription software items that came with WIN10.. My WIN10 looks just like WIN7 with small icons on the main screen and working taskbar at the bottom. It is also super fast being WIN 10... Love that part...

  • I use only the client version of WLM (on Windows 8.1) with a pop3 account held by GoDaddy.

    Will this be affected?
  • Even if you have to change email clients you don't have to lose your email address. You can either use a different email client or use webmail, depending on your email address.
