Winegard Carryout Question

Does the Carryout need to have the satellite receiver connected in order to find the satellites or can you just hook up the power and the Carryout will lock on the satellites? I am using Dish if it matters.

Thanks,
Tom
  • I do the same thing by unplugging the power and then plugging back in. I need to make sure next time that I have the receiver powered up before I plug in the dome power and see if that makes it faster.

I am not sure what causes it but if it didn't find the satellite within a few minutes, I unplug the domes power (not the cable), wait a few seconds and plug it back in and it usually finds it.

  • Thanks everyone. I have it working fine I just wasn't sure if I had to have the receiver powered up first. I was hoping I could set up the Carryout while I was setting up the outside of the trailer and then go inside and hook up the box. Plugging the dish in first before I turned on the receiver might explain while it doesn't want to acquire the satellites. It does seem to take a while sometimes to get locked in.

Again thanks for all the responses.

  • Yes, it needs to be connected to the receiver. And the receiver needs to be powered on before you power on the Carryout. Once everything is setup and the Sat's found it is good to go.
  • Yes, the Carryout must be connected to the receiver. You also need to change the dip switch settings inside the dome to Dish as they are all set for DirecTV from the factory. Follow the instructions for doing a Check Switch correctly and then sit back and watch TV.

It has to be connected to the receiver.
  • I have an Anser, not a Carryout, but the receiver needs to be hooked up, as that is where the antenna gets the instructions for what satellite to point at.
