Winegard TC amplified antennea

I'm looking for a primer on how to trouble shoot an antenna problem. I have tried replacing some, not all of the cables. The green light is on, on the amplifier and there is 12 volts at the roof plug. Tried a different TV same results. Any help will be appreciated. The must be a step by step proeeedure out there somewhere. Thanks

  • Thanks fellas. I'm sorry I was clearer. I have a Winegard TV antenna that cranks to an upright position after lying flat on the roof of my Lance Truck Camper and the TV set is not receiving any TV signal at this time. It has always worked perfectly in the past, but this is our first trip this year. Tomorrow I'll try several of the tips you have given me. I'd really hate to lay out $100. for a new head, but if that is what it takes I'll do it. Thanks again

    What is a Winegard TC?
    You have 12V where?
You have not told us what's wrong, only things you have tried.
    Any additional details?
  • Do as previously advised, if no better the problem is probably at the antenna. Note that the actual amplifier is in the antenna, not in the power panel. The panel only provides 12v on the coax for the amplifier. I had the same type problem, so we replaced the antenna head only with a Winegard Sensar IV for about $100 or so. just two pins to pull and replace. Best $100 we have ever spend on the rig. Now, instead of one or two very local channels, we pull in dozens, depending on where we are. Just remember, that the electronics are up there on top, and are exposed to high levels of sun heating. Failure is to be expected on the older ones.

Edit to change two to top.
  • Thanks Steve. Tomorrows another day and I give those things you suggested a try.

  • I had issue with recption on mine once and turned out tobe bad coax connection on the roof. One thing you can try is running a loose coax cable directly from the antenna to the antenna input connection on rear of booster. If signal is good, then the problem is then isolated to the coax from booster to the antenna. If signal is unchanged, then run loose coax from booster output to TV.
I think you get the idea. Using these steps should help you isolate the problem.
Let us know how you make out.
